    (rant) Exhausting brain fog replies

If a thread explodes, I will read the last 2-3 pages to see what people are currently discussing.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Or employ a good statistician or methodologist when designing your study. The same goes for grant review. I run team that peer reviews grant-funded research and we are constantly begging the funder to allow us to start peer reviewing their protocols so that the studies we get have fewer flaws...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

They still teach humanities but the rigor is gone and most of the critical thought is missing. From what I see, they teach mechanics like diagramming a sentence/ the 5 paragraph essay or they teach short form writing but longer research and thinking critically seems absent. I see a lot of folks...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

This is learned or taught behavior though. People are being told that they have a right to their happiness and that compromise is bad. Compromise should lead to a place where both parties can live and be happy with the outcome. People should not live expecting that they must get their way to...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Many scientists have fundamental ignorance of good methodology or statistics. I work in STM peer review and your would not believe that studies that arrive with fundamental methodological issues. We point it out in peer review, but by the time the data arrives, it is already too late to course...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I agree. Humanities has gotten worse over the years and no longer emphasizes critical thinking or analysis. I grew up being constantly told to examine your beliefs and to constantly examine and critique your arguments. It's funny, my bosses just sold their company and they are employees now and...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I stopped being a DM for games that do not interest me. I spent years running games because I felt it was my duty to ensure that my friends were happy and got to play. It was constantly burning me out. It is like having a bunch of friends where you are the only person keeping the friendship...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

I never played in older edition games where characters die over and over again. It was a running joke in most groups to create backup characters but it was a meme. You hate it when you feel that people mischaracterize 4e even when they are giving their opinion and argue that the opinion is...

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

This. I will continue to support my current companies such as EN Publishing, Free League, MCG, Goodman, TLG. I may look into getting a Royal Mail site in the UK to batch shipping etc if the costs become prohibitive. Gaming keeps my somewhat sane even if I only read the material.

What printer quoted you that price? My 1000 print run HC textbook runs around $7.50/copy and that is 500 pages in full color gloss.

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I disagree. I can find players no matter the system. Why, you may ask? Because I am running the game and most people will play whatever the DM chooses to run because they’d rather play than DM a game.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

TLG has printed in the US since 2005 so they did not contribute to any loss of jobs.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

They were offering to help other publishers print locally by offering softcover printing of putting them in touch with their HC printers. I thought it was a nice gesture for those worried about tariffs or supply chain issues.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

Did folks see the Troll Lord Games announcement about publishing books and box sets in the US? They are also expanding their own printing facilities.

What are you reading in 2025?

You should hear about my first grader. Before her first report card, we had a meeting with the teacher. She raved about our daughter and how she was already doing second and third grade work. When we got her first report card, she got all P's (or progressing to meet expectations.) When we...

This is the way I see it too. I think it was a mistake. They could have served crunchy and non-crunchy by layering rather than forcing.

I do not disagree with more mechanics, but I think more crunchy bits like weapon masteries would have been better as optional add-ons like the way feats were handled in 5.0.
