WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

I think it's notable that everyone I know with actual experience running large things is staring at horror at the most incredible destruction of value they've ever seen, while lots of people with zero relevant experience are admiring how brilliant it is to just fire all the people. I think it's...

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

Yes. It allows you to use material you otherwise couldn't use. There is also some material you could otherwise use. But Dancey warned people that if they used some of that material, WotC could sue them, and thus, they should instead use the OGL, accept additional limitations, and be safe, even...

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

I also spent a lot of time talking to Dancey about it, and he was very aggressive about asserting that they could absolutely sue anyone over things that are, so far as I could tell, completely okay under extremely well-settled law, and that the only way to be sure they wouldn't sue was to sign...

D&D General Younger Players Telling Us how Old School Gamers Played

I don't remember any rule about real-world time, and I can't imagine why anyone would want one.

What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

I feel I should point out also: There are many things you can do which refer to or describe game rules which do not require a license in the first place, because the actual rules of a game (as opposed to one specific set of words describing those rules) have been declared uncopyrightable by US...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

"Injunction" => court orders you not to do something. WotC has requested an injunction. They have not filed one, because they can't, only a judge can do that. They have filed a request for one. "conduct colloquy" means "have a conversation", only it's formal.

D&D 5E (2014) Barding for War Dogs; 6000gp for Plate Barding???

My thought: It probably costs much more to get dog armor, not because it's harder to make or because it uses a lot of materials, but because anything marketed to pet owners is just automatically going to be Super Nice And Fancy because pet owners are suckers.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I mean, it was the case in 1E that humans were sort of the default, and also that they were the only race that could do any level in any class, but... there were usually some non-humans in the art? But also, yeah, humans were totally more-the-default overall, I think. I don't think this was...

D&D 5E (2014) Question on prestidigitation cooling and heating matter

If memory serves, original Unearthed Arcana cantrips were taken by memorizing four of them using a first-level spell slot. 3E added cantrip slots to standard loadouts. It wasn't until Pathfinder that we saw "yeah cantrips are unlimited-use" show up.

And that Justin LaNasa's name... was Albert Einstein.

    Dragon Reflections #60

Other people don't seem to have thought Spawn of Fashan was an intentional parody, just a very enthusiastic and poorly-made game. I honestly can't tell.

If he counts as a public figure, which... I don't know, but the usual standards for that are moderately high? But truth is still a defense, and opinions are protected, so my intuition (disclaimer: not a lawyer) is that this is gonna be very hard to win.

Malice does not mean "with intent to cause harm". It's a term of art. "Actual malice" means either you knew it was false or you acted with "reckless disregard" for whether or not it was true. It is neither necessary, nor sufficient, to assert that someone intended harm.

D&D General In my DAD Idea was The Baron right in choosing the lowest level candidate because she's a friend and he knows she is honest, trustworthy and loyal?

You keep writing threads asking for people's judgment as to whether characters are right or not. Why? Like, what happens if someone says "no"?

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Note, WotC has not "filed a preliminary injunction", that's a thing a court would do. WotC has filed a motion for a preliminary injunction. They have asked for that. This does not have any effect of any kind whatsoever. It does not mean that LaNasa can't publish things. It means that, if a court...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you still roll a saving throw if you are immune to what you are saving against?

I think the statement that you don't normally choose to roll a save is qualified that way for a reason. Normally you don't decide to roll a save, but if you would in theory have a save, and for some reason you want to make the roll even though you won't be harmed even if you fail the save, sure...

RPG Evolution - True Tales from Stranger Things: The Satanic Panic Comes to School

The older kids I played with when I first started later asked if I wasn't worried about the suicide risk from playing D&D, I never figured out where they got that.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you define “mother may I” in relation to D&D 5E?

Just to avoid survivor bias: I've never heard this term for an RPG thing before this thread, I don't think.
