It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I agree. And I’m not convinced it’s possible for one game to be all things. But… I’m willing to be open minded about One D&D at the same time as I’m 99% not at attached to WotC’s games anymore.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

Id love it if One D&D truly is “the game”, better and more fun than any other… but until I see it it’s hard to judge.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

So I mentioned upthread that I’m not super inclined to “get back onboard” with WotC—in fact, OP’s suggestion still makes me cringe. But I’m willing to consider spending dollars on Hasbro products again… if they make something interesting to me. Which sorta puts me back in the same spot I was a...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

“It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.” Is this some kind of sick joke, OP? Nah, they’ve barely even begun to earn forgiveness. I can’t imagine the amount of stress that content creators had to deal with this past month because of Hasbro’s contractual whims. WotC are not heroes for...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Full disclosure: I haven’t read this whole thread. But I’m totally sure this change of heart is because Hasbro desperately wants to improve goodwill with the community before the D&D movie comes out. Hasbro sees the movie, media, and merch as their meal ticket, not any of this gameplay stuff.

Paizo Paizo's Organized Play Orc Now Always Available

Goblins for Pathfinder and Orcs for the license, Orcish lawyers specifically. And then they’re also hanging out those Black Flag pirate Kobolds…

    D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons re-released without fanfare?

Get a copy of free Basic Rules for Old School Essentials, then play that with your nephew. It’s a clean, simple retroclone of B/X D&D, so you can plausibly tell him that this is the same D&D that the kids on Stranger Things were actually playing.

WOIN Open-Licensed WOIN Starter Set Coming in 2023

Nice!! I backed WOIN on KS back in the old days, but digital only. Great system! Now I should probably upgrade it to paper.

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

You say C- overall, and I say D+ at best. I think giving them a B on addressing the major issue was very generous on your part.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I’m not “attached” to disliking WotC. I’ve been continually disappointed by their products over the past 5 or so years, to the point I stopped buying them. Spelljammer is a great example—it was three thin books with a dearth of content, and even after putting on a big show about being inclusive...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

(Full disclosure: I only read the first 120 replies in this thread. My apologies if I missed something major after that.) My thoughts: * WotC’s statement was PR speak, saying very little. It neither surprised nor impressed me. * I’m more surprised by the number of people commenting either...

Level Up (A5E) de-OGL-ifying Level Up?

I love Level Up and I love WOIN. If we’re all getting off the D&D train, I’d jump to either one of those cars

Foundry VTT Author Chimes in on OGL 1.1

Thanks for this. Good to know the distinction.

Which RPG games depend on the OGL 1.0a?

I’m extremely curious about what will happen to Level Up: A5E now…

Foundry VTT Author Chimes in on OGL 1.1

I generally agree with that assessment, that’s what I was trying to say. I think the majority of 5E players are into it casually and are never going to invest heavily the way Hasbro hopes.

Foundry VTT Author Chimes in on OGL 1.1

As a big PF2e fan and an ardent support of Ukraine, I’m shocked and concerned to hear this! I wasn’t aware, so thanks for this. I don’t own any Owlcat products, and I won’t buy any for the foreseeable future. I’m still supportive of Paizo… but you’ve made me think twice.

Foundry VTT Author Chimes in on OGL 1.1

Are you talking about 5E? Because superiority isn’t NOT the reason for 5E D&D’s success. The reality is that the vast majority of players aren’t familiar with other TTRPGs and are hesitant to learn. It’s like playing board games with your relatives at Christmas—a lot of the players only know how...

Foundry VTT Author Chimes in on OGL 1.1

I feel this immensely. Personally, WotC’s approach to both D&D and MTG over the past year have made me extremely interested in piracy. Not piracy in the sense of “illegal downloads” so much as like “pirate radio”—homemade and with a total disregard for authority. If the “authority” behind these...

News Digest for the Week of January 6

Ahh, yikes. Yeah I had seen a lot of this news on ENWorld, but didn’t follow it closely. I hadn’t really tied any of them to OSR in my mind, but then I never followed any of these people either. For the record, Kevin Crawford is the author of Stars Without Number and Worlds Without Number...

Remember when D&D was sold to a gamer and then he turned around and sold it to Hasbro

I was gonna say that Nostradamus mostly wrote the kind of gibberish that was so vague that people interpreted it to fit whatever they want
