    D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Vrock

My god, this is fantastic. Thank you for this detail! …Can y’all publish this? I would buy this book.

Worlds of Design: Modern vs. Medieval Maps

I love this. Might be this is another element missing from my prior attempt at a 5E sandbox hexcrawl— the default rules and assumptions in 5E kinda kill the mystery of exploration

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

Is there a way to hack PF2 to be better at sandbox adventures?

Is killing a Goblin who begs for mercy evil?

I do lament the “everything must be cute and friendly” approach of some games over the past few years. That said, goblin characters have always been popular as hell as anti-hero characters, so I can appreciate why they’re core now. And cooking racial strife into the game (dwarf religion...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

So a post appeared on the PF2 subreddit that seems relevant to this discussion. It’s written by Michael Sayre, a Paizo staff member. Quoting the entire post here for posterity: I hadn’t realized there were major streamers “dunking on” PF2, but it’s disappointing to hear. Suffice to say...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

I can’t speak the PFS, but my own experience was that optimization guides took all the magic out of character building. Once there’s “right” and “wrong” character choices, you start discounting concepts because they’re merely not good enough. Playing a net build meant someone else did the work...

Is killing a Goblin who begs for mercy evil?

Yeah I like how PF2e (not sure about PF1) lays out the edicts and anathemas for each religious character. It sidesteps a lot of the alignment questions and gives you very specific Dos and Do Nots.

New supplement for Mutant Future, eh? Nice!

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

This is fascinating to hear. Kinda speaks to the dangers of doing a drawn-out public playtest

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Tbh I’m curious too. The system seems unsuited for hexcrawling-style random encounters, but I love the system and the style, so I’m hoping the big brains at Paizo have some good innovations to meld the two.

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

I’m 100% into it for the PF2 version. PF2 is one of my life rafts away from 5E. I’m imagining most of the interest is in the primary release, not the 5E spinoff version. EDIT: Seems like I’m the only person in this thread who’s specifically stated “Yes, I’m planning to play this is using PF2e.”

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

I think there’s definitely more interest in TTRPGs than ever before, and with that comes enthusiasm from new authors and designers, who want to pitch new things. But is it really easier to publish now than in the old days? Most of these new products are digital-only anyway. You nailed it when...

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Totally correct! But the vibe in the hobby as changed in the past five years; before that, even D&D felt niche. Now there’s a real sense that it’s being driven by huge numbers of newcomers, which is good overall, but are maybe a harder demographic to compete for. Newbies only know about D&D...

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

I personally agree with you, though I’m not sure that it matters much what WotC does with D&D as long as they keep printing more of it. The hobby is critical mass right now, attracting more newcomers than ever, regardless of what they do. (For example, Spelljammer is the most recent release, got...

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

It’s certainly tough to get noticed alongside the brand-juggernaut that is D&D. Especially when the one-line pitch is hard to distinguish from D&D— “Pathfinder is a medieval fantasy roleplaying game where heroes go on quests and slay monsters!” “Oh, like D&D!” “Pathfinder is like D&D, but...

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Fair enough! I love sandbox/hexcrawl style games, and I do wonder how well a game with advancement like PF2e (or 5E for that matter) could translate to gameplay like that. Players in modern systems presume advancement will occur just by showing up and playing, but in OS sandboxing you’ve gotta...

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Amazon is listing this as a 640 page book. If it’s only $99 USD (the Paizo price, not including shipping), it’s not bad.

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Do you normally like sandbox adventures in the OS vein? If not, then it’s perhaps not surprising this didn’t scratch your itch.

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

Thanks for the feedback! As for the price tag, my LGS is offering pre-orders at $100 CAD, which is a lot, but I think this is another mammoth of a book.

    Pathfinder 2E Kingmaker Preorders Open

I only got into Pathfinder in the 2E era, so I never experienced the original version of Kingmaker, but I’m stoked for this product. Already got my preorder locked in with one of the LGSes. Two things I still want to know more about: 1) I wish I could find more info about the Kingdom...
