Rogue sneak attack rules question, now that it's 1/turn

I see Low Slash as more of a do-over for the rare occasion when you miss with your Standard Action attack, a cheap way to get rid of a bothersome minion, or a last "stab" at knocking off an enemy that you think is near death. And hey, if you have amped up your crit chance, who knows what extra...

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

I just discovered another twist on the Character Builder angle. The Aspects that CB lets you choose from at levels 1 and 7 are the ones listed under the Scout in HotFK. But the list at level 17 includes ALL of the Aspects. It's not retroactive -- you can't select a Hunter Aspect for levels 1...

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

The feature description says: ASPECTS OF THE WILD (SCOUT) You gain two of the following powers of your choice. (and then the list) I'm inclined to think that if an Aspect of the Wild is not in that list, it can't be taken by a Scout.

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

Well, that's interesting. I wonder if I can convince my DM of that...

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

I know that the Character Builder is not considered a rules source, but it is sometimes indicative. In this case, the CB does not allow it -- I just checked.

Who is your favorite Doctor Who?

I voted for Christopher Eccleston just because I liked him a lot and he never got a chance to grow into the role. If not him, it would be Tom Baker or Tennant. While I don't normally like to descend into negativity, I don't see the love for Matt Smith. He, along with the newly inane dialogue...

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

BTW, I love the Scout for Aspects (though the Hunter's selections are slightly better), and for all of the cool utilities available -- either the new Dailies or the old Ranger options.

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

Those are valid points. My comments about the Slayer were spur of the moment -- I don't pretend to have a good feel for the actual math. My first point, about DWA damage being conditional and not (lol) a given was the main thing I wanted to say.

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

DWA requires TWO hits, so that even if you hit on a 6, for example, there is a 43.75% chance that the DWA will either miss or never be triggered. More than half of the Scout's damage comes from Dual Weapon Attack because DWA gets up to +6 damage at epic tier. Put those two together, and the...

Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

The two powers use the same trigger, and the damage from Power Strike is much lower, so the only reasons you would ever use Power Strike are: 1. To take advantage of an add-on effect: Serpent's Blade or Eagle's Axe. 2. Because you have already used Dual Weapon Attack once that round, and can't...

    Building Two Characters with Synergy

Expert Sneak: Martial Power 2, paragon tier, rogue only Vicious Advantage: Players Handbook 3 (Note: I've gotten great use from Vicious Advantage with a Defend the Line-using Knight.) Saeviomagy's point about a Rogue teamed with a Warlord having CA all the time from flanking is valid...

Multiple saving throws at start of turn -- how do they work?

That's pretty much what I thought. Thanks.

Multiple saving throws at start of turn -- how do they work?

Hmmmm... Since Superior Will allows saves even against things that normally have no save, does that carry over to Martial Resolve or Spirit of War? In other words, take the Stunned and Dazed conditions in my example, and make them both "end of turn" instead of "save ends". How many saving...

Multiple saving throws at start of turn -- how do they work?

Interesting point. Of course, Martial Resolve applies to 5 separate conditions, so the saves could really pile up.

    Building Two Characters with Synergy

If a Rogue or Thief takes Vicious Advantage (CA vs. slowed or immobilized) or Expert Sneak (same + deafened and weakened, paragon tier), a good controller can be very helpful in getting CA.

Multiple saving throws at start of turn -- how do they work?

Let's say a 29th level Knight or Slayer has the feats Superior Will and Martial Resolve (descriptions below) in addition to the class feature Spirit of War. Is the result multiple "extra" saving throws, or is there just one? Example: At start of turn the Knight is Stunned, Dazed and taking...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

In addition, while it may be a no brainer to take the newer version of the feats rather than the old version, it still requires a functioning brain to decide between Improved Defenses and (for example) Master at Arms, Intelligent Blademaster, Backstabber, etc. Customization is about choosing...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Charwoman Gene: Old-time ENWorlder whom I remember fondly from the dear old days of 3e, when I posted under the 'nym Elseth Arnelian, an identity I sadly lost the login for during my "lost years". Hi Gene.

    Essentials feat too powerful???

That's a valid perspective, and the DM would be justified in deciding not to allow those feats. I'm not convinced that justifies a blanket condemnation. I'd love to see you start a thread on this idea.

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Yes they are, but only if you start from the PHB baseline and compare. If you took Essentials on its own merits, you could walk away saying "Wow, feats add a lot to the character. Cool concept." What I'd like to hear from the naysayers is, what customization mechanism would you prefer? Or do...
