    Essentials feat too powerful???

I don't normally bring this up, but because some of the comments include specific references to me, I will now point out that I am not a "he".

    Essentials feat too powerful???

You need to go read the feat description. I'm not talking about being saved from Stunned or Dazed by having the attack miss. I'm talking about making it go away by saving against it at Start of Turn. Superior Will -- look it up.

    Essentials feat too powerful???

I have two takes on this. First, obviously feats like White Lotus Riposte are great -- they increase damage by upgrading a different part of the damage equation (more attacks, instead of more damage per attack). As such, they are so good that some DMs even ban them. Similar feats include...

    Character Builder Copy and Paste

Never said otherwise. But it's the difference between a poorly implemented plan and a strategic decision that intentionally shafts customers. The problem is that many posters on this board (and others) infer malice from the actions of WotC without justification. ALL. THE. TIME. As...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

KarinsDad: I don't remember mentioning Expertise or Focus. They represent a small minority of the feats available. But the thing is, they are NOT boring. A player who wants to boost damage will find a Focus feat very exciting. A player who doesn't care about that so much, or finds a...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

So, as time passes between first publication and transition to the next edition, the rules change -- that's your beef? Well guess what? The same thing can (and does) happen with classes, paragon paths, epic destinies, weapons (superior), armor (masterwork) and magic items. Back in 3.x, it...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Regarding my list of feats above, and the responses to them: I *like* those feats and combinations. I'm not saying they are overpowered, but they are better than those that came before, and not getting the notice that they should. I've used those feats in several encounters and they have...

Another possibility is that they did the "simple thing" in order to make the deadline, and will do the "right thing" later. This happens all the time in software development. ALL. THE. TIME.

I really hope the new adventure path is Mass Effect

Do Peter F. Hamilton's books count as space opera? Truthfully, I don't see what people like so much about them, but they seem to be popular. Would Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of the Seven Stars be a candidate?

I really hope the new adventure path is Mass Effect

SSR would be a cool choice, but there really isn't that much flavor to pull from, if I remember the books at all well. If you are a Space Opera fan, have you read Harrison's "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers"? That is one funny book.

I did that too, once. It got annoying after a while for a variety of reasons.

    2/7 DDI Update

OMV! (Vecna, in case you were wondering) They fixed my single biggest remaining complaint -- the cards on the Character Sheet are no longer a chaotic mess, but (generally) go at-will, encounter, daily, items. Before they fixed it, my solution was to print to PDF, screen capture each card...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Oh, there are some astonishingly good feats in the Essentials books, but many of them don't get discussed much. Superior Will -- start of turn save against Stunned or Dazed, even if it's not a (save ends) effect -- on top of +2/3/4 to Will. Superior Fortitude -- reduce ongoing damage by 3/6/9...

XP is way too high in 4th Edition!

What sort of encounter is the OP talking about, I wonder? DM: There's an orc in the kitchen, tending the fire. He has his back to you. PC: I bop him on the head with a frying pan. DM: He drops. DM [to self]: Okay, that makes 23 encounters. Curse this infernal pace! I mean, seriously? This...

    why play rogue/thief?

Shadow Striker is definitely amazing if you find ways to get hidden to start it rolling, but I'd say Thief's Advantage is more in the category of "very good" -- it's an average of +2.5 damage at Epic.

    why play rogue/thief?

Two of my favorite things about the Thief: - an extra trained skill - no need for a specific secondary ability score. This allows you to start with pre-racial 18 Dexterity, and choose which other score(s) to bump.

    why play rogue/thief?

Ambush Trick is good in isolation, but you can get the same effect by taking Tactical Trick and the feat Cunning Stalker. (That is, for every case where Ambush Trick could give you CA, you get it for free from Cunning Stalker, or can get it by using Tactical Trick instead. This assumes that...

Blog post: Speeding up Combat #3 - Barking up the Wrong Tree

Ick. Small combats are fun. Very few skill challenges are fun. If you really are good enough with skill challenges that your players truly enjoy them, please post some examples -- the world needs them.
