Getting into the Points of Light mindset

True, but the DM may not want a city that large in the vicinity of the starting point of the campaign. Picture the DM going whole hog on PoL. Now a player comes along and says "My character comes from a huge city." What is the DM to do? Accept that this Heroic Tier (probably level 1 or 2)...

Getting into the Points of Light mindset

The biggest problem I have with PoL is that the classic large (population > 100k) fantasy city doesn't really fit, and it happens to be one of my favorite background locations. You really can't have a character who grew up as an anonymous street urchin who was forced into a band of juvenile...

    Battlefield Archer quarry damage

Yeah, over time, the Battlefield Archer looks less and less like a cool Paragon Path and more like a "nice try". The level 16 feature especially pales compared to most.

    Battlefield Archer quarry damage

To be clear, although Battlefield Archer allows you to have more than one quarry at a time, it does NOT allow you to designate more than one quarry at a time. This was clarified in an FAQ a long time ago: 25. Does the Battlefield Archer’s Battlefield Experience paragon path feature allow me to...

    Best Goliath defender build

Warden + Greatspear + charge build could be a lot of fun. Sticky (and with reach!), but can charge to get to a new position when needed and hit hard in the process.

    Best Goliath defender build

Hmmm. Normally, I talk up the benefits of Superior Fortitude and Superior Will every chance I get, but the Warden is a special case. Much of the ongoing damage that Superior Fortitude negates will be negated by the Warden's start-of-turn save. Superior Will though -- there ain't nothin' else...

    D&D 4E PHB1 4e Human Cleric questions

You skipped over it when you were discussing ability score allocation. That's what I was referring to. Sacred Flame gives THP = Charisma modifier + 1/2 level. So at level 4 that's 2 THP, or 3 if you bump Charisma. So yes, I can see it being used, and 3 is better than 2. By comparison, with...

    D&D 4E PHB1 4e Human Cleric questions

Congrats on the encyclopaedic response. But I'm curious why you skipped over Dexterity completely in your explanation, and also why you elevate Intelligence in importance over Charisma, when Charisma contributes to powers such as Sacred Flame.

Speeding up combat: Ditching the Damage rolls.

The problem with that formulation -- "what power to use" -- is that it is an oversimplification. In 4e, there is also which enemy to attack, where to move to, whether to shift and achieve a suboptimal position or move and risk an OA, whether to use an action point, whether to toss in a minor...

Just a bump to help make sure more people see this post. Good luck finding testers.

    THP close burst question

It's not so bad when you realize that the THP are granted by a Property, not a Power. Every attack you make has the potential of granting THP. Though attacks that target multiple enemies will not grant you extra THP, they do have a higher chance of granting some because it is more likely that...

Does the term "a creature" include yourself?

Yes. All PCs are creatures. This will generally be a bad thing, because it means that you and your allies can both accidentally target you with harmful bursts and blasts, but may occasionally be a good thing.

    D&D 4E PHB1 4e Human Cleric questions

Vilmond: I don't have time to go into detail, but I don't like your suggestions very much. I know the OP has specified restriction to PHB 1 only, but even with that limited selection, Lance of Faith is better than Priest's Shield, which competes in the "worst PHB 1 power" race and always...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Character Sheet for iPad - Sneak Xmas Preview!

Good job. I was playing with something similar but never got past step 1 of about 100, due to time constraints. I would definitely pay $9.99 for something like this, if it works well.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Character Sheet for iPad - Sneak Xmas Preview!

I disagree on this one. When the range is large, it can be difficult for some people to get to an exact value using a slider, due to arthritis, shaking hands, etc. There has to be another method that allows precise specification of the value. If nothing else, supplement the slider with two...

    HP Tokens

I'm not sure that I completely understand your system, but it sounds like ultimately it comes down to two things: 1. Use chips to represent HP and surges 2. Replace HP with "Big HP" at a 5 to 1 exchange rate. This is nothing but a decrease in granularity. Two completely separate things...

Early Access to Paragon and Epic Tier feats == disaster?

Re: TPK being the motivation -- all I meant was that in many campaigns, you never reach Epic tier. If you never reach Epic tier, all those neat Epic tier feats remain forever out of reach. The OP was all about the risks of granting early access, whatever reason there might be for doing it.

Early Access to Paragon and Epic Tier feats == disaster?

That's what I had in mind. Actually, a few of the cooler feats even pop up at Paragon, but they generally don't see action because of a lack of feat slots. For example, Roll With It allows you to shift a square after being force-moved, turning a bad position into a good one, though it won't...
