Avengers 2: Age of Ultron (trailer)

Man, Ultron's voice is pretty chilling. This is going to be one heck of a ride.

    D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Develop a 5e Town

East Gantrick has a hidden Bardic College of Lore, the Truthsayers. Once they were a true secret society, hunted like animals by forces of the Mad King for daring to speak out against his excesses. As time went on and the Mad King fell, the Truthsayers gradually relaxed their rules to the point...

What are your multiclassing house rules?

Most campaigns I've run, I've only had one restriction: you cannot multiclass a divine caster class with an arcane caster class. The viewpoints are so far apart from each other, it's like trying to mix oil and water.

D&D 5E (2014) How many (ancient) dragons would it take to destroy a (dwarven) city?

A lot depends on the setting. The phrase 'mithril golems' really threw me for a loop because in my mind, there might be at most one such thing in the world, not acting like guards for a city, even a city of dwarves. They certainly don't have armies of Iron Golems. Perhaps if this was Eberron...

If I cook it on the reactor, is it fusion cuisine?

Cargo copters could also drop one in. Also would be useful for remote facilities, underwater labs, etc. Developing countries could certainly find one useful. Also, it could be the final trigger in the electric car revolution - even a small station like this could provide power to small...

Videogame thesis ideas: desperately needing your help!

    1. 52 2. About 14 years 3. I have enjoyed both kinds of titles 4. Casual 5. Fantasy (I'm not really aware of any Urban Fantasy games out there except for Secret World) 6. Given the writeups, I would go for the second one because that sounds like an interesting game with a unique premise. Then I...

    Flash - please no spoilers

RE: Stagg Yeah, I do hate that they killed him, because with his skills and money he could be a perfect villainous enabler. I was thinking 'My, what is genetic genius Simon going to do with the 2 tons of uniquely malleable genetic material Flash dumped in his lobby, esp now that he needs a new...

Pathfinder 1E Where do I find the languages?

Most monsters speak their own language. For the Golarion setting, there are the following human and non-human languages: Azlanti, Common, Dtang, Dwarven, Erutaki, Goblin, Hallit, Hon-la, Hwan, Jistka, Kelish, Minatan, Minkaian, Orc, Osiriani, Osiriani-Ancient, Polyglot, Shadowtongue, Shoanti...

    D&D 5E (2014) Can you see when you're Blinded?

One time I played with a group that somehow managed to interpret that the phrasing in the 3.0 or 3.5 book regarding low strength and bows actually meant that you increased damage with a bow when you had a negative strength modifier. That was cleared up, as I recall, with a short discussion about...

    [October] What are you reading?

Currently reading: The Prophecy Con, sequel to The Palace Job. If you like humorous fantasy and don't care that characters can get the occasional cappuccino or check their message crystal, this is the book for you. It's a fantasy heist novel, combining two of my favorite genres. Wake of the...

    [October] What are you watching?

Just watched The Signal and The Rover. The Signal is probably the best SF I've seen since Moon. The Rover, despite occurring in 'Australia: Ten Years After The Collapse', is not a Road Warrior take. It feels like it has twice the violence of all three of those movies combined, just because it's...

Whats up with Gandalf? Why is he such a nimrod?

As has been noted in a couple of other threads, lots of lots of authors from '75 on have been influenced in some way by D&D, even second- and third-hand. The vast majority of modern fantasy, I would say, has wizards on par with a lot of D&D wizards save in books (like, just to pick something at...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you RETURNING to D&D

I am back after playing Pathfinder. During the initial days of 4E, we were doing Mutants and Masterminds for 18 months or so and thus when we came back to fantasy we picked up Pathfinder. None of the the groups I played with or talked with ended up going with 4E. We've played Pathfinder ever...

    Agents of SHIELD low figures?

Yeah, since 2009 ratings have been adjusted based on time-shifting caused by DVRs; traditional 'broadcast' TV numbers can show a significant jump within 7 days after the initial show. I was surprised that AoS was renewed, but I think that the change in focus and promise of many more...

A modest Fall nerd TV guide

Gotham was a very pretty show, and it gave us an absolutely stunning view of the City of Gotham that the last two Nolan movies never bothered with. All of the cast is amazing, and the whole dynamic is pretty darn good. It's still an exercise in futility though, and the only thing that would...

D&D 5E (2014) I'd like to know the thinking behind this....

That would indeed seem to be exactly the designers intent. I would have rather saved them for a DMG options section or a special adventure supplement, rather than make them a core PHB race. Same with Aasimar, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) "Monster density" and wilderness settlements in D&D campaign worlds

I think one bit of trouble you might be having is taking rules that worked in a dungeon setting, things like wandering monsters and the like, and applying it to the world in general - which I think doesn't much work. One thing I normally use, even when I use a wandering monster table, is to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Evil enough?

For patron motivation: It sounds like it might be better to set him up as a kinds of soul con-man, whose patron wants to tip the balance of those who are 'not quite evil enough' by promising them something that doesn't exist: a way to have their cake and eat it too. Tell them that this amulet...
