    D&D 5E (2014) Dear WotC: D&D 5, Hero Lab, and the OGL

Do we know if they'll actually be better? Liquid promised us the sun and the moon as well, and look how that turned out. An Access database that didn't even do templates. D&D player 38 years and counting

    What motivates you to act?

Something that speaks to me personally, mostly, or that works for a societal change I want to see happen. I'll drop in a dollar here and there for random things, but most of my charitable giving comes through our state employees combined contribution thing, where we can choose from several pages...

D&D 5E (2014) Character Concepts you cannot make in 5E

Nah :) Only because of past events are you not seeing five year old threads reborn to plague the living :) --EDIT-- Ooops, I was wrong.....

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Warlock

I've never played a warlock before, so I made one for my first D&D 5.0 character - we play tomorrow for the first time, so I'm very interested in how this works out. So far, it's an interesting set of implications from your abilities and The Pact. The idea that you always are using the highest...

    Ant Man pics

It got you to post, link, and mention the upcoming movie, didn't it? Mission accomplished.

Would a typical D&D town allow adventurers to walk around?

That's really a player expectation problem than a world-building problem. Unless the players are specifically playing psychopathic amoral murderhobos, then they're going to recognize and respond to civil authority despite their own personal power. In general, it's been my experience that the...

    The Theory of Everything (trailer)

That people keep seeing movies about the power of love, and reading books about farmboys who become famous, would seem to indicate that they don't in fact get tired of the basic story framework - just when it's done poorly.

Hey DMs, what are your quirks at the table?

I do character voices, sometimes, or I'll at least indicate a type of accent they may have. We usually use a grid or tactical map of some kind. We use Heroclix or D&D Minis for PC's, usually some kind of counter or the zombies from the board game 'Zombies' for crowds of NPCs. I try to find...

D&D 5E (2014) How many of your campaigns ACTUALLY ever get to 20th level?

Never gotten there. I've played since 3-book D&D. Previous to 3E, I never saw a game go past 13th. Our first 3E game lasted until we were 17th. After that, things tended to drop off sharply and end about 12th to 13th, when the system started to break down.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minor rant - y'ever just hate your players' characters?

Yep. I've literally sat down, explained the campaign structure, then had people fixate on character ideas so antithetical to that structure that I've abandoned running it before the first pencil hit paper.

D&D 5E (2014) Rarity of Healing for the Common Man in the 5e Implied Setting

It'll be interesting to see what the suggested demographics in the DMG will be like. I'd prefer to look at magical healing as a fairly rare thing, as the Cleric writeup certainly implies that empowered clerics are rare things. I like rare magical healing because it ups the drama factor. Heck...

How could the Tarrasque still possibly be alive?

Once you have a group of very high level magi who are friends and allies of each other, it becomes pretty difficult not to. Discounting Elminster, you still have The Simbul and her six other sisters, and Khelben and his network of people. The Tarrasque is a even-level encounter for at least two...

    The Dumbing Down of RPGs

How interesting you mention that. King's Quest V drove me away from video games for over ten years, except for Civilization and SimCity. The next video game I picked up was Chrono Cross.

    The Dumbing Down of RPGs

As would almost anyone. I think the 'softening' of both tabletop RPGs and computer RPGs have done a huge service to both hobbies by vastly increasing the number of people that stick with them. Certainly there is some degree of pride in beating a 'Nintendo-hard' game, but you can bet such things...

How to deal with this DM?

Good to hear that so far this had had a happy ending. It's long been my contention that the reason that RPG's are not more popular is that all it takes is one bad experience - especially one bad GM in a visible public place, like a mall store - to turn someone off RPing forever, or make it years...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it just me or does it look like we are getting the "must have feats" once again?

I've met quite a number; I AM one who has done that. The idea is that it shouldn't be a restriction, esp. just to pander to spell icons. I was hoping that, at last, 5.0 might have generic damage and allow us to skin it as a specific energy type using feats or something similar but alas...

    D&D 5E (2014) Atheism/Agnosticism in 5e?

We usually expected it as such. I suppose you could have said 'I worship nothing', at which point the GM would most likely have said. "Cool. BTW clerical healing or restoration doesn't work on you". (We also ignored that silly 'spells of third level and under come from the cleric, not the deity'...

Can you separate an author from his or her work?

It's hard, indeed. I only met MZB once and thought the discussion she led on writing was very well done; I've also enjoyed many of her books, and have every issue of the magazine she edited. It was really hard to hear about these allegations and even harder to hear that many people in the SF and...

Where do you buy your gaming stuff?

I would also suggest eaieducation.com The 150 dice set used to be $19.95; they may run specials or sales to get it down to that price again.

Where do you buy your gaming stuff?

Amazon, mostly. Our local game store isn't really anything to write home about, plus they actually mark some things up from MSRP. They're rude, have harassed a couple of my female players, and they basically exist so the owner and his friends have a playspace. If I had a nice FLGS where I hung...
