D&D General Cheatin' Bob and the Rod of Power - A Grognard Tale

It's been decades since this happened. Many of the players involved have passed on and some I never saw again after the events of the tale. It might well be that I am the last who remembers the tale. Names have nevertheless been changed. We'd gathered months ago for a specific purpose: to...

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

I seem to remember that Gamma World 2e removed the Social Wars as the cause for the 'disaster'. Did they ever restore that?

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

Then there was T5, AKA The Six Hundred Page Doorstopper Book of Charts and Tables. I'd never heard of HeroTraveller. Apparently neither did anyone else.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds, what did you think?

I think it'll resonate fairly well with them given that the take-away here is that to get to the Federation future, every existing social and political structure gets wiped out in the Eugenics Wars and the existential horror of it's aftermath. Looking at Memory Alpha and some other sources...

Star Trek Strange New Worlds, what did you think?

I was pretty pleased with it, and I've not been really pleased with a Star Trek show since the first couple seasons of TNG.

    The Batman (spoilers)

This is the only live-action Batman I've ever enjoyed. I had a few quibbles, mainly about my costume preferences and I hope the next two give us as decent Robin at last, but overall I really liked it.

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

We went shopping in the city and had to fight a runaway Alchemical Skunk, Then later we all shared the reward from that - a lucid dreaming potion - so we could deep-dive into the dream realm, and use my Risen character's memories to solve his murder.

D&D 5E (2024) What if you were in charge of reworking classes for 5.5?

In theory I love this idea. In practice I fear it would come down to the same thing that the early City of Heroes (if anyone remembers that) game faced in early development. For those who do not know, COH was a superhero MMO that, in early Alpha, did much the same thing: you had a basic...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D and who it's aimed at

Exactly. Sometimes think the 'Disneyfied' comments are from people yearning for the bare-boobies pics in early Dragon issues and thinking, somehow, that will come around again. * And until I looked, I had no idea that 'Disneyfied' is an actual word in the Oxford dictionary. To 'cause...

What are you reading in 2022?

Currently reading (and in a few cases, re-reading) the entire Maradaine series by Marshall Ryan Maresca https://mrmaresca.com/wp/novels-of-maradaine/ The setting is a low-magic pre-gunpowder world about at 'Age of Sail' levels of sophistication and ingenuity, helped on in places by geniuses...

D&D General Original photo of David A. Trampier with his cab, found.

"Trampier was suspicious of the offer, and wanted to ensure that TSR would not have any part of the publication" Darn right there is. Something seems to have happened between them. Might be in the corporate minutes or correspondence that I assume WOTC/Hasbro now own. So sad. I loved his work.

That book cover is... it's actually disturbing in a way I cannot adequately express.

    Eternals (Spoilers)

That was one of the longest five hours of my life. At least twice I was thinking 'OK, things should start moving into the last act any mi-- there's forty more minutes left?!' Too bad this is the version of The Eternals we're now stuck with for who knows how long.

    Evil, the TV show

Oh, good to know it got a second season. I was hooked, mainly by Michael Emerson playing a truly evil bastard. He was just good enough that I could forgive the cardinal sin of a paranormal show: kids.
