I prefer the social role structures that characters take when meeting NPCs: Peacemaker -- gets everyone to be nice to each other. Inquisitor -- responsible for asking a bunch of questions. BS'er -- distracts/aggravates by making a fuss about knowing everything. Nodder -- supports others by...

The roles are Human Torch, Thing, Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic. Seriously, though, I can't imagine playing a D&D campaign in which you're identified primarily by the role you serve in a combat unit. I seriously hope WotC avoids including those terms in their products.

I think "fluff" and "crunch" are both lazy excuses for atrophying writing skills, in much the same way that smilies are overused to imply emotional content. What is it someone doesn't like about a gaming product? "It's all fluff, not enough crunch." And what does that mean, exactly? "You know...

The examples given were weak and easily argued against. But, yes, I agree with the core message. The proliferation of online multiplayer games and home videogame systems are driving much of D&D's new edition design.

If you read the descriptions verrrrrrry closely and fill in the blanks, it becomes aparent that Karhun is actually another character's familiar. Intriguing, no? That means the primary PCs that haven't been revealed yet must be mega-awesome.
