Duergar: I'm shocked - a flavour change I really like!

I can't wait for the dragonborn of the gnomes.

    D&D 4E Monte Cook on 4E

Yes, you are correct: The interview was at the link provided. Does anyone disagree that it wasn't there?

    Squirrels...I was right.

The armor is nice, but I'm more interested in the sword. Can't make out the engraving from the image. Could it be the famed Acorn Bane, a +5 Flaming Nut-Poker?

What Do We Know About Clerics?

From what some have already argued in other threads, we can safely say that there are a lot of people who still won't have any idea what a "cleric" is.

D&D 4E This is why there are no Gnomes in 4e..

Ah! So the dog in this strip represents the 4th edition design team, right? And their inability to give gnomes a racial identity? Very insightful.

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

I grabbed a bit of text from Wikipedia, as a good starting point. I'm curious as to which version of "grognard" you're using to define "really old" people in their twilight years of 40+, and why the age-ist insults. I don't remember accusing all my elders of being grumpy old farts back in the...

    Mike Mearls comments on design

Players 1, 2 & 3 cont.: ... Because we had absolutely no idea that a "fighter" fights, a "rogue" is a sneaky thief concept, and that a "cleric" has many magical healing options via spell-thingies. Yes, for us, an easy-to-understand index would be invaluable. :\ Not sure that was the point...

    Mike Mearls comments on design

The first page or so of responses to this thread gave me the feeling I had stumbled into the Church of Mike Mearls (Reformed). I still disagree with the attitude that players stepping into a roleplaying game should have rules-assigned tasks from the git-go: "The roles are there so that players...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

These are interesting observations, Eric. A lot of insight to share, for those of us willing to read between the lines. Thank you.

How do I bow out of the game gracefully?

Alternately, you could start killing their PCs in-game. Play the passive-aggressive card. Crank up the friction a notch and force them to ask you what the hell is going on. I understand this works in a lot of interpersonal relationships where people don't know how to talk to each other. One of...

How do I bow out of the game gracefully?

First, stop assuming that you are personally responsible for someone else's fun -- because it's obvious they're not checking on how much fun you're having. This sounds harsh but I mean it in a pragmatic way: You're not that important. Which is to say that if you quit, the group probably will not...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

... Unless there's a honkin' magic item at stake, then it's every gamer for himself. How much experience do you get for browbeating the average board member?

    Announced before Christmas?

Do you think it was a good idea, or even avoidable, for WotC to reveal plans for the release of a new edition before the Christmas retail rush passed? Or, if you'd prefer a related question: What effect has this had on sales of current-edition D&D materials as we're moving into the heaviest...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

The mods in this thread aren't addressing "trolling" by itself, but rather civility and decency in general. If you really want to bolster the "troll" tangent, I would bring back the focus to an introductory line of that link you referenced: "Trolls delight in sowing discord on the forums." Too...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

OK, upon reading the thread more closely.... Henry gets my vote. I'd support either a Henry/Pirate-Cat ticket for '08 or a Pirate-Cat/Henry ticket. I also am for civility and thicker skin: Stop being mean and stop assuming someone else is being mean. Because once people stop being so edgy...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

That is SO true! You don't hate only one side or the other -- you hate everyone equally! I don't know how you do it, but your moderating skills have evolved beyond mere good and evil and attained a sort of simultaneous dichotomy that can only be described as gawd-like. It's awesome. Keep it up...

    What's happening to the bard?

I agree. Bard play may have been a fine option for plenty of players, but experience shows that people who complain loudest ("Bard can't pull his weight in my military strike force!") are those who force change, necessary or not.

    What's happening to the bard?

I wonder if this was one of those decisions of "change for the sake of change?" Gotta make sure 4th edition looks different from the previous product, otherwise why would consumers even look at it, eh?

    What's happening to the bard?

It feels as though WotC has decided that unless a character is designed specifically to wade through combat, it's not worth the time to play.
