Forget the Spelljammer setting, just use the ships and the updated 3.5ish rules. Never liked the setting much, but the idea rocked. They even have a Dragonfly class ship for you. ;) Add a few more guns and the Iron Heroes classes, and 4th edition would have nothing on it. :)

Iron Heroes has lots of fun additions to the selection of actions you can do while grappling, including throwing an opponent, or picking them up and slamming them to the ground, twisting their limbs for an effect, just holding them up in the air, etc.
