Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

To be pedantic, it doesn't say you can't get the OGL ahead of the kit, it just says the kit includes it. But, I mean, you've been told repeatedly what the order of events was and clung to your opinion regardless, so what's the point in debating further? Seriously, if you'd paid attention at...

    What's with the Gnome Hate?

Except Warlocks, it seems 75% of the warlock's I meet are gnomes. Also, 80% of female gnomes have those pink ponytails. I bet your gnomes have pink ponytails! I will admit that my gnome warrior was partly because of the height thing. It just amuses me that a little girl gnome tanks for a...

    What's with the Gnome Hate?

I'm sorry, Hooked Hammers weren't popular enough and are no longer D&D Compliant as of 4e. Any references to Hooked Hammers (Gnomish or Otherwise) can get the GSL police on you. You've been warned! (I once had a shadowrun gm that wanted to advance the game by timeline of when the books came...

I lack boardsearch, but your point would easily be proven by providing a link from the initial conversation, nay?

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

IMO, some of each. The problem is that Distributors and Shop Owners didn't recognize the difference, it seems. True, but so long as they're selling, and recognizable quality, Good Glut can be fine as long as the market is fine. I know you're speaking in general terms and not specifically to...

    What's with the Gnome Hate?

I had a player that always played a dwarf, and he was a big guy with a red beard and he WAS a dwarf. He did great. An ex-gf of my brothers was our resident kender. She played it to a tee without being obnoxious about it. (She was a Kender Barbarian and still packed a wallop...) Some folks just...

    What's with the Gnome Hate?

Gnomes were present in Greyhawk and highly represented in the setting. Moreso than dwarves in the actual adventuring area of the central flan. They faded after that. As for 3.5, I remember a lot of this same debate going on when they "became bards", so I don't think that's a good sign of "no...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Personally, I think the timeline went like this: 3e released, happy friendly, bring your 3rd party! A ton of stuff followed, clogging shelves and selling, but then stopped when consumers learned that a lot of it was crap. As consumers became more educated and looked before they leaped...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Because if there's a lot of such product, and they aren't selling well and the gamestore has money locked into them, it hurts the store and the market by restricting that flow. I stopped going to my local gamestore, because they'd only get in 2-3 copies of the new WotC, then reorder as...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

There's no way to judge whether Ork! would have propelled the company this way or that, so I can't debate anything here. :) I think OGL/D20 probably gave enough breathing room to do some of that stuff, along with the rep to back it up, but again I can't/ won't debate GR's financial status/...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

Nyah, but they should also keep in mind that WotC didn't just wake up one day and decide to be bastards. I think the GSL is easily handled through making an imprint/ divisional brand. The GSL applies to lines, and is easy to work around in that way. Sure you might not want to tie Freeport into...

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

I think the problem comes down to the blame game. The restrictive GSL is due to WotC's perception that the OGL failed. In their mind, the 3rd party failed the gentleman's agreement. The 3rd party didn't prop D&D up, the D20 license and OGL gave these companies a market. GR, Mongoose, Malhavok...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I believe there were external pressures to change. The "dread" of "4e is coming!" was replaced with "I wish 4e was here already". Folks like GR were getting good mileage out of the constant threat of a new edition. The fact that 4e as released has some noticeable differences from 4e As Proposed...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I'm not even sure we're having the same conversation. It was said that he didn't try to move characters forward, but instead just built 4e characters. I said I found it amusing that you can't even build a lot of the old iconic characters. I find this a sign that 4e offers less options...

Hancock - has anyone seen it?

I saw it, and liked it. It was a fun movie that wasn't totally predictable and was worth the price of admission. (I also got a hot dog, nachos and a soda though, I'm not sure if it was worth the total price.. but that's more about the price than the movie.)

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I was replying to a post where he mentioned not bringing characters forward, and was talking about 3e iconics. As for your retort, I've already said that in my view, 4e is a great core game, but that too much of the stuff they just didn't convert. IMO, development ended too late/ too quickly...

    What's with the Gnome Hate?

We once had a flashlight made with the dragonlance invention table. It malfunctioned and turned a large field into glass... we assume it was fusion powered. Dragonlance was a wonderful example of a literary world, where folks tolerate each other for the simple reason that the books need those...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

RPG's have always had a generality of roles, certainly. MMO's tightly defined these roles as a function of gameplay. and 4e has followed that pattern into tightly defining it. If you don't see that, look at the agro mechanics, or the strict definition of who can be an ARCHER for heaven's sake...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

I assume you mean first before 4e, since WoW's been out for a while. Artificers didn't cover all the cost, but since folks often said 3e was videogamey, it doesn't really change the fact. :)
