    Xbox 360 price cut!

Well, IIRC, BluRay isn't "Sony", but I doubt they'd subsidize, true. Lots of folks considered this HD-DVD/Bluray "generation" to be a stepping stone anyway. The add-on, I doubt ever sold well. One theory was that MS would license out the 360 hardware so someone else can make a version with...

An open letter to Randy Buehler

I think it is a concern that the players would be spoiled, but I think it's a given that such a player will also just download and read any adventures they want to anyway. So, I mean, if you have a player that would download it, and then in game try to kill the kid in Adventure 1 that becomes...

They actually say "6 per tier, so 1&1/2 years", so double what I thought above, but no where did it say 1 adventure per level, I think.

    Xbox 360 price cut!

Yeah, proprietary and overpriced. It's not something I like, but I think it's more about the price than the proprietary.

Well, the overview is a good thing IMO, but... I think it's assumed that the adventure publishing will outpace actually playing through them anyway, so you'll know an adventure or more ahead of time what's what. It can give you more time to react, and it's not a bad thing really. It just limits...

    Xbox 360 price cut!

You can use an Xbox 360 HD and it'll go right on. I've got an extra 20gig somewhere around here I keep meaning to put on ebay. BluRay is a recurring rumor actually, but nothing yet. Various parts of MS have said they'd do it, then not, then they say "we prefer digital download" and so on.

    Is Amaunator Back in Faerûn!?

See, my main issue here is that if I'm going to make stuff up, I don't need to buy their guide. What I liked about early FR was the modular nature, integrated settings also have their uses. Removing a piece in order to use it in your homebrew is saving time, for me. The idea of buying a theme...

Yeah, sure, but when you read the thread and saw the error pointed out by myself and a couple others, most of them more polite than the way you put it, and then saw he himself admitted his error, you just posted more snark rather than edit your post? Even this where you admit he corrected...

How do you scare your players?

Back when I played in person, I tried some of the lighting tricks & such, but they never really worked for us. (Playing with flashlights or whatever) We used to play outside on the porch at night, but our area was well lit. It was still nice atmosphere, but it wasn't specifically "horror". Our...

How do you scare your players?

I just tell them we're playing a White Wolf game and the players all run in fear...

An open letter to Randy Buehler

I think that's probably the big reason. WotC has a lot of experience with authors submitting work that is somewhat different than the called for stuff. Especially in a digital format, their books are probably all over the internet 10minutes before they hit storeshelves, so I can definitely see...

An open letter to Randy Buehler

For the first one (Cauldron), there was no guide (that I recall, during the run at least). For Age of Worms, it was supposed to be out around issue 1 or 2, but ended up very very late, around 3or4. For Savage Tides it was out on schedule. So yeah, they learned.

Games That Required Too Much Buy-In: Forked Thread: Games that didn't survive...

Death and insanity are a very real possibility., sure. We had a few deaths, a few near deaths, a bit of insanity and always the threat of same. Players were concerned that if they made a wrong move they would die, but they couldn't be too cautious or they'd fail and some ancient evil would ruin...

Games That Required Too Much Buy-In: Forked Thread: Games that didn't survive...

My one quick game of UA, I was a random mage (whatever it's called) and played russian roulette for some magic. Shot myself, barely survived, then reached for the revolver to get the magic to heal me... :) The GM said I was doing something wrong or something... Somewhat different, a "railroad"...

Where the Forgotten Realms lost me...

I do wonder why the players guide didn't come out first. Seems that would have made more sense. Even then, as mentioned, if they have the same page count combined, it will STILL be a lot less information than the 3e book. 4e's Scholastic Print & Format is a huge space leech.

Where the Forgotten Realms lost me...

I think people underestimate others work on the 1e FR also. D&D products have always benefited from a diverse team that could work togethor. They need a common "goal", but one voice only tells one story. I mean, as a more recent example, Eberron was based on Baker's stuff, but the finished...

Where the Forgotten Realms lost me...

I find the new "lighter" style to be bland. I also think it misses the point of RPG's since IMO it requires a certain level of ability to read & process information. There aren't many "dumb" RPGers simply because the game isn't the style they'd want to play ANYWAY. It's silly to me to "dumb...

Games That Required Too Much Buy-In: Forked Thread: Games that didn't survive...

I bought the first adventure and thouight it had the best art I've seen in an RPG product... and the adventure seemed to assume the players would follow it's path with no deviation. It wasn't a railroad in the sense that it didn't force the path, it just kind of assumed the players would figure...

Games That Required Too Much Buy-In: Forked Thread: Games that didn't survive...

Some players don't mind pregen, other players would never tolerate such. When we tried C&C, I made all the characters since only I and the GM had the booms. Some players just tried to learn, others couldn't help tweaking as much as they could. (M&M is a bit of a sidetrek to this thread though...

Where the Forgotten Realms lost me...

I liked FR because it was well detailed in what it did, and it made it a lot easier for me as a DM to not have to develop stuff. It was also easier in that a player could simply read the book and know the setting. I loved the supplements as they expanded the world by detailing new areas. When I...
