WotC Seeking Your Setting Proposals (was "Big Wizard announcement")

Re: As a side note... That is assuming that the winner is from the US. WotC will receive a lot of submissions from outside the US. :-) Duncan

WotC Seeking Your Setting Proposals (was "Big Wizard announcement")

A new thought It just crossed my mind that with Wizards getting all these submissions it would be a great way to build up a database of roleplayer's addresses for direct marketing. Duncan

Re: aaaarrrrrgggghhhh Of course, you will never know why you were eliminated. They will only reply to people who make the final ~10. Duncan

WotC Seeking Your Setting Proposals (was "Big Wizard announcement")

Inspired by the name of Eric Noah, I've been preparing just for this eventuality. Now, I need WotC to send me TWO copies of all published works and works in progress, and I will make sure they survive the flood... Hey, it's worth a try! :-) Duncan

So how does Play-by-Email work ?

My experience with PBeM games is mostly as a player. I've tried four or five, and each has died after a couple of months. They are slow, and combat can be a real drag. However... It can be great to see descriptions well written, to see conversations extended and so on. People have a source...

    The aggravating five foot move.

Well, first of all, not all melee weapons are fencing weapons. A saber is, and a lightsaber is named after a saber for a reason. I can't imagine someone swinging a battleaxe around parrying a saber. Sure, I can see an axe blocking a couple of blows, but not nearly as many as one could with...

WotC Seeking Your Setting Proposals (was "Big Wizard announcement")

The submission guidelines document does list a date for the submission of the 10 pages (31 July, I think), and a date for when they will be decided upon. They do not list a date for the 100 pages. I do find it interesting that this date put it in line for wizards to announce the 2nd stage...

WotC Seeking Your Setting Proposals (was "Big Wizard announcement")

Re: I Noticed Something And of course, there is nothing that says they have to chose even one. When push comes to shove they may decide that none of the finalist's projects are worth developing further. This is the equivalent of a tender process. Submit your prospective idea and it might be...

    Skill Focus question

Ah, excellent. That really answers the question for me - thanks Duncan

Ever had that one player who's just on a different wavelength?

Hmmm, this paragraph reminds me a lot of my flatmate. He's a good GM normally, coming up with great storylines, but he gets frustrated and difficult at times. He will have one way out of a situation planned, and if we can't find that way we are stupid. As a player he can be worse. When...

    Skill Focus question

Hi everyone, I hope this hasn't been covered before (or at least recently). Can anyone tell me, if, according to the official D&D rules (including errata), is it possible to take skill focus in a skill your class cannot buy. For instance, could a fighter take skill focus in Use Magical...

    We're way too rich

I'm wondering why you think that having a "south of good" alignment is important to this situation. You traded goods you didn't want for goods they didn't want. You didn't say that anyone was ripped off. In fact, you both stand to make a profit off it. And the aqautics can use the metals to...

    Double Weapons-What's the Point?

Remember, the whole Double Weapon thing was developed around the time that the Phantom Menace was released. I've always considered them to be a spin-off from Darth Maul's double light saber. And as for the sunder problem, remember what happened when Darth Maul's Double Light Saber was...

    FR Novels-Which ones are good?

I've read most of the FR novels over the years - it's great for getting a feel for regions of FR, although, as many have stated, not great literature. Others have mentioned some of the better novels - Elaine Cunningham, RA Salvatore (if you like his style - I usually do), Douglas Niles. I just...

    Hex experts

One thing to consider that others haven't mentioned yet - 3D combat. If you ever need to go to 3d combat (flying creatures, underwater, etc), Cubes are *much* easier to deal with. Duncan

    Old "Slave" modules

I ran a 3e group through the converted A1 around christmas. I told them (with tongue in cheek) that being a 1e style game their characters were not to have any backgrounds or personalities, and that there was fog surrounding the slaver's building of A1. They had just arrived there, and knew...

[Star Wars] The "Obi-Wan is Vader" Hypothesis

Potential spoiler for EpII.... . . . . . . . . . . During EpII I was wondering how come Luke never noticed a certain gravestone at the farm he grew up on mentioning a very familiar name...

OT: MATH, or, I'm FREEEAKING OUT!

    I figured out something similar to this a few years ago, and that is x^2 = (x-1)^2 + x + (x-1) for example 5^2 = (5-1)^2 + 5 + (5-1) 5^2 = 4^2 + 5 + 4 25 = 16 + 5 + 4 25 = 25 Now, this doesn't seem very useful, but if you are working with large squares and don't have a calculator, it can be...
