News Digest: PaizoCon 10 Announcements for Pathfinder and Starfinder, Star Trek Adventures Gets Assi

I imagine its juxtaposition with a genuinely creative, innovative, and interesting new product line makes it seem arguably more boring than it would normally be. That said, I'm amazed these sorts of products are still selling - I looked at some of the recent player guides and was underwhelmed...

    Starfinder I just played Starfinder

Revealing both my age and my lack of exposure to anything beyond D&D, I think of Spelljammer! :)

Starfinder Check Out This Epic Starfinder GM Screen Art!

4E is my edition of choice but I'm definitely getting at least the first few releases of Starfinder. I can't wait. I've wanted to run a Dragonstar-like campaign since 3E but didn't want 3.xE's enormous DM's workload. With Paizo putting out an adventure path, it looks like I won't have to do much...

Gaming at the Kids' Table: Monster Slayers

This is timely. I'm planning to run MS with my 5yo son this weekend. I'm thinking about using minis and tiles just to make it a bit more visually appealing.

Everyone Else is Doing It: Getting Past Yourself And On The Road To Being A Designer

Funnily enough, I find being a gamer now to be simpler than as a teenager in the early 1980s. AD&D was so poorly written and poorly designed that I was always trying to "fix" it, without the life experiences or other skills necessary to do so. Later editions, and later games, mean that I'm not...

Beast Switch is kind of badass.

Yeah, the next time I make a witch-like monster - a la Circe, as you mentioned - I think this will be its MBA.

The mistakes of my players are just as important as their successes in determining the fate of my world...

My PCs in my first Neverwinter campaign absorbed the power of a magic water rune of dwarven origin as one of the PCs was a dwarf of the right bloodline. It gave him a nice boost - which he shared with the other PCs with lesser versions - but they don't realise that it freed a city of the aboleth...

    Masterplan, how I love thee...

Masterplan does the calculations although you have to adjust brute and minion damage yourself (easy enough to do in your head). Ditto for Initiative (again, easy enough to do in your head). The output format is the same as a post-MMIII stat block with powers classified by TRAITS and action...

    Masterplan, how I love thee...

I've read good things about it but I spend a lot of my time in the Third World where internet access is such a problem that it was one of the reasons I moved over to the offline versions of all the DDi tools, including Masterplan. And Masterplan rocks. :)

    Masterplan, how I love thee...

Anything that saves me time at or away from the table is a good thing, IMO.

    Masterplan, how I love thee...

I've been using Masterplan as a monster builder for about two years now, in reaction to my expectation that the DDi tools would disappear rather quickly. Of course, the DDi tools are still there but I'm much happier having offline versions of everything so I'm not going back. But I digress...

Beast Switch is kind of badass.

Yeah, it should be ranged 5... or melee 1 and a melee basic attack! :)

Beast Switch is kind of badass.

It says they only take beast form for an "instant". I assume that, after enjoying that split second as a guinea pig, they find themselves on all fours on the ground and slightly disoriented hence the inability to take OAs and the psychic damage.

Star Wars gaming with D&D Gamma World (7E)

I think this is the perfect system for Star Wars. I'll follow your blog with interest!

Brazilian D&D Translators Fall Out Over Translation Rights

You mean an English translation. UK English is English. All the others are, at best, pale imitations - especially the adverb-free linguistic crime known as American "English" (sic). However, D&D would not be the same without imperial units of measurement. Nothing says "hopelessly backwards and...

D&D 4E Get WotC 4e's Online Character Builder to work or get a sub

Apparently the latest Firefox update unleashed a coup de grace on Silverlight. You may have to join those of us on the dark side with the offline tools....

Terrain aid query for public square combat encounter

Is this in one of major city-state arenas? If so, there are good descriptions of each arena's specifics in 2E's Complete Gladiator's Handbook and 4E's Blood & Sand. Those could give you some inspiration.

    D&D 4E Getting Back Into 4e

Some fans put together offline versions of all the tools but, obviously, I cannot post links here. They're definitely worth getting and take care of the errata and update problems.
