    Ranger tips? 4E PHB only

From memory, a doublesword isn't in the PHB - that's the other reason I asked.

    D&D 4E The Best Thing from 4E

Of course, full credit to him for synthesising the ideas of several others, mixing it with his own, and then having the courage to take that product - lightning caught in a bottle, if you will - to market. That took genuine chutzpah. But clarity, cogency, and coherency were never part of his...

    D&D 4E The Best Thing from 4E

When Old Geezer used to post on RPG.net - aka Mike Mornard, one of Gary's original players - he mentioned a few times in response to questions that thieves' skills as run by Gygax were supposed to essentially automatically work and the percentage change only came into play in extreme...

    Ranger tips? 4E PHB only

Is there a real reason for PHB only? If you end up using the Character Builder - which I recommend - you will have access to everything and it's actually hard (maybe impossible?) to filter things out.

Starfinder A STARFINDER Bonanza - Preorder Core Rules, First AP, Compatibility License, & More!

I am really looking forward to this even though I am not a fan of the Pathfinder rules. Hopefully this will scratch my sci-fi/sci-fantasy itch that began with Dragonstar.

[UPDATED - With Cubicle 7] Games Workshop Concluding Deal For Licensing Rights To Warhammer Fantasy

Surely I am not alone in wanting to see an official Old World adaptation for Shadow of the Demon Lord?

    D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Nightmare

Thank you again, Echohawk. This is simply the best series of articles on ENWorld - with daylight in second place. I hope we keep seeing more from you.

D&D 4E Changing the Combat Parameters of 4th Edition

I do both in 4E. The trick is all in the encounter design. Lower level brutes that pack a wallop but are easy to hit are perfect for quick skimishes a la 5E. Support them with a few minions - especially minion artillery - and you can have a quick, meaningless, but fun encounter in the same time...

Repost- first session of Dark Sun campaign

Great stuff. And I am going to steal that halfling psychic hound! I'm also looking forward to reading further reports of your Epic game. I still have all your session reports saved and compiled as a PDF which I have read through a couple of times now. It's all good stuff.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

You're right: That is both insightful and sad. I think it's fair to conclude that the D&D fan base is dominated by nostalgia both when it comes to rules and to adventures. No wonder 5E seems to be succeeding! I would put this really bluntly: Paizo APs work better with 4E. It's easier for the...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

When my son was a few weeks old at the beginning of 2012, I was changing his nappy one day and it was a horrible giant smudge of green and black baby poo. Suddenly I realised where the "cartographer" (sic) for the map (sic) of the 4E Realms got both his colour palette and his astonishing...

Repost- first session of Dark Sun campaign

Mate, did you ever return to this game?

    Bought Wrong Adventure

I'm a huge fan of 2E's The Shattered Circle. It is suitable for level 1 PCs and is one of the best site-based adventures I have ever read or run.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

I like your take on Abeir. I'm also still using the 4E Realms. Aside from the worst world map in the history of RPG publishing, I find it's a really evocative and inspiring campaign setting.

    D&D 4E Building a team for a 4e pvp game

Human resourceful warlord. (I like resourceful for the AP benefit.) Dump Str. Int and then Cha are your priorities. Take powers that grant attacks (especially Direct the Strike). Take Ninth Legion Warrior feat and wield a spear (not that you will make attacks) so your OAs are replaced with...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

Good to hear! I have a human vampire in my group and he's been terribly effective. Sure, they're only level 4 right now but, so far, it has been a really useful character. darkvision, Stealth, Acrobatics (I allow this for climb and jump), unarmed combat: What's not to love? :)

D&D 5E (2014) Do you care about setting "canon"?

Salvatore didn't create the Realms. And he really makes no effort in his "stories" to try and work with the feel of the Realms. There's a lot of irony reading about RAS criticising others for not grokking the Realms when he is renowned for ignoring FR canon. Oh and for making up stupid names...

D&D 5E (2014) ICV2 reports on a new Graphic Biography of Gary Gygax

It's going to have to be awfully short if it's not going to be completely depressing.

D&D 5E (2014) What would you put in Volume 2 of Tales of the Yawning Portal

0E's Caverns of Thracia - sure, WotC would have to buy the rights off Judges Guild/Paul Jaquays but this showed the D&D fan base just how much Gygax had to learn about designing dungeons 2E's The Shattered Circle - a surprising masterpiece of dungeon design 2E's The Gates of Firestorm Peak -...
