  1. Scrivener of Doom

How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

I haven't because... ... 4E is the edition that suits me and my group the best, and it remains my favourite iteration of the D&D rules since I began with Holmes in 1981. I agree with that statement. I sometimes describe 3E as the necessary edition because it's the one where the designers...

    combat vs skill challenge

My answer would be a question or two: Do your players enjoy skill challenges? Do they respond creatively to skill challenges?

D&D 4E My Neverwinter Campaign. (WAS: 4e Any contradictions between FR guides and Neverwinter setting?)

Firstly, sorry for the really late reply. Real life has intruded on my unreal life of late and it definitely has priority. Lost Crown is a bit of a railroad but has some good bits. The "flushed into the sewers" scene is priceless. I adapted that for my Paragon Tier PCs... but I wouldn't spend...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

I also want to extend a very warm welcome to the 4E fans from the WotC boards (a bit late, I know). Great to have more 4E fans in the forums! :)

Session report - Victory over Orcus, escape from the Abyss?

That's a really good point. I also spent a few dollars on some key minis - such as aspects of Bane, Demogorgon, and Graz'zt - for this reason: at least with 4E they're going to get table time.

Session report - Victory over Orcus, escape from the Abyss?

I think we studied art and design at the same school. ;)

[UPDATED] WotC To Close Forums - Including D&D and M:tG (aka "Welcome New Forum Members to EN World!

This was the motivation behind my comment on the first page that a couple of people have commented on. To those here in good faith, my sincere apologies for how I may have come off as unwelcoming. The previous exodus Morrus was referring to was really jarring and changed the tone of the place...

I need an introduction to Forgotten Realms

Welcome to ENWorld! The Forgotten Realms Wikia (wikia includes the extra a deliberately: it's not a spelling error). Just use Google as I cannot at the moment. (Third world problem.) Neither. PotA takes place inland. Best source albeit for 2E? Volo's Guide to the North. You can grab the PDF...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

REH is no longer copyright in Oz so the Oz page for Project Guttenburg has the Conan novels for free and legal download.

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

I hate Drizzle Do'schnizzle and I don't mind if the series finally ends with him alive and kicking (yes, kicking with that special kick he work out when his two scimitars are in that certain position...). But I think every dwarf Salvatore has ever written - you know, the brain-damaged short...

D&D 5E (2014) Forgotten Realms: Using the Harpers

No worries. Even without the explanation, that's how I would have interpreted your question. :) Harpers use Harper "runes" to identify key locations, to place warnings etc.... This has been a feature of FR since the OGB. As part of joining the Harpers, they would have been taught those...

D&D 5E (2014) Forgotten Realms: Using the Harpers

2E's Code of the Harpers mentions caches in the wilderness (healing potions etc...). I would also have safe houses all over the North offering the same benefit as the Order of the Gauntlet. (After all, the Harpers have been around a lot longer!)

Session report - Victory over Orcus, escape from the Abyss?

I'm very glad you're posting again! I was looking at the PDF I made of your other session reports a few days ago and wondering when I might be able to add another chapter. Great stuff! :)

D&D 4E My Neverwinter Campaign. (WAS: 4e Any contradictions between FR guides and Neverwinter setting?)

I ran a Neverwinter 4E campaign (recently concluded at level 14) and much of my source material actually came from 2E's FR5 The Savage Frontier so you could put in the camp of those who don't see any real contradiction. I must admit, though, I took out a fair bit of the Salvatore-derived stuff...

D&D 4E 4E Forgotten Realms Mystra did whu?

UnknownAtThisTime I think Mystra returned in one of Ed's Elminster books - I know she's on the cover art of one of them - but I avoid the novels so I cannot tell you which one. If you look at the covers for a blue female ghost and then check the dates inside, that should give you your answer...

[UPDATED] WotC To Close Forums - Including D&D and M:tG (aka "Welcome New Forum Members to EN World!

I can see why WotC is doing this. Their forums were far too toxic and had been for a very long time. And clearly WotC wasn't going to spend what was needed to provide the resources to clean up the forums and try and create a new culture. A note to Eberron fans: trawl for Keith Baker's (aka...

Froghemoths & Flail Snails - Oh My! Chris Perkins' New Adventure Sneak Peek

Oh yeah, that could definitely work with some AIs being the BBEGs behind the giants, a la some of the ideas in Paizo's Iron gods.

Froghemoths & Flail Snails - Oh My! Chris Perkins' New Adventure Sneak Peek

My thoughts too, plus the Legion of Gold for 4E's version of Gamma World had a strong Barrier Peaks influence. Then again, Tiamat was the BBEG in 1E, 3.5E, 4E, and 5E so they're prepared to go back to the same creative well....
