Hasbro Sells Game Manufacturing Plants; Focuses On "Global Brand Experiences"

That's true in some places - especially parts of China (but not all of China) - but can be ameliorated somewhat if you have good distribution because the reputable wholesalers/retailers won't want knock-off products. Of course, if you're producing some sort of generic item then distribution...

Which 'foreign' languages have seen D&D?

    Great collection, Javier! :)

Hasbro Sells Game Manufacturing Plants; Focuses On "Global Brand Experiences"

You don't. "Global brand experience" and similar phrases from the lexicon of corporate wank-speak are not aimed at the consumer. The consumer is largely irrelevant. Wank-speak is aimed at wank-speakers: the economy-destroying 3-year olds who can cause share prices to move up.

D&D 5E (2014) Published Campaign Setting or Home Brew?

This is all so true. Place names - or any names for that matter, including those of the PCs - can make or break the immersion factor. It's much more efficient to contract that out, so to speak, to a campaign setting. (Yes, I am making a case for outsourcing. :) )

    D&D 4E 4E conversions of 5E

I am a fan of Lost Mine of Phandelver but I am just about to finish a Neverwinter-based campaign so I cannot imagine going back there for a while. If I did, it would definitely be a part of my plans. I love that adventure. :) I'm stealing bits of Princes of the Apocalypse for an upcoming...

D&D 5E (2014) Published Campaign Setting or Home Brew?

I like published settings, principally FR, but I also have campaigns I want to run in Dark Sun, Eberron, and Midnight. I like the idea of homebrew but I simply am map-tarded. I don't want the hassle of creating maps for my games. I do collect various world maps that I find online and save them...

Hasbro Sells Game Manufacturing Plants; Focuses On "Global Brand Experiences"

I don't think this will lead to more games being designed: besides lowering costs (see below), I think this is about paring back to a core team that can focus on the IP and converting the IP into things that generate windfall gains. They will still have the games for bread-and-butter regular...

Now that is a choice many of us would be happy to have! :)

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder flip-map classics

Unfortunately, I also got the pirate ship one which has cannons. Unfortunately, my players don't like pretending they're not there so I just used Skeleton Key Games ship tiles instead. Such a waste....

    New WotC Layoffs?

How do you make a small fortune in RPGs? Start with a large fortune. Unfortunately, there is no *real* money in this hobby at least insofar as the TTRPGs are concerned. It's a niche hobby that last had mainstream success 30-odd years ago before computer gaming came into its own. What is...

Hasbro Sells Game Manufacturing Plants; Focuses On "Global Brand Experiences"

While I detest corporate wank-speak, specialisation does seem to bring benefits just as mergers and acquisitions typically destroy value. In any business I have owned or run, I prefer that manufacturing be handled by manufacturing specialists. It's not just simply about controlling costs: it's...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder flip-map classics

Well, that's a bugger: it is out-of-print. I can get the PDFs printed on to tarpaulin-material here for a few dollars; I wonder what options you might have at print shops in the non-Third World?

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder flip-map classics

YW. It's my favourite of the maps. That battle where I used it as tar pits was one of my favourite D&D combats of all time. It will always hold good memories. :)

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

What's even more annoying about that was that this wasn't suddenly something that needed to happen because of 4E: the emphasis on minis and grids in 3.xE also made terrain important to interesting encounters. I know that at least one of the major names behind 4E wasn't actually running a 4E...

I hope I don't sound like a smart arse but it's the <Darklands map>. That's what it's actually called. I've linked to its product page.

D&D 5E (2014) First-hand experience with the DMG rules for creating/modifying monsters and NPCs

This was very much my experience as well... and, ultimately, I just gave up. It was too much work for too little reward. Sure, not as bad a 3.xE but, compared to 4E, it was non-productive. If I go back to 5E I will just be using published stat blocks. I did all three things you mentioned over...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] What are your favorite things about 5e?

    1. It has kept D&D alive as a tabletop RPG. (If it hadn't succeeded, I suspect D&D would be in mothballs for now. And that has been important for me as a 4E fan because it has keep the online 4E tools alive! :) ) 2. It has resulted in some pretty good adventures for my preferred world of FR (I'm...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

The problem is almost always the players. Give them cheat sheets with their triggered powers clearly spelt out for them in TRIGGER/EFFECT format. If you have time, putting their character sheets in monster stat block format can really help teach them to use their characters effectively. Train...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder flip-map classics

I love the Darklands flip mat. I have used the big open cavern as a big open cavern as well as an area of tar pits in a canyon, a section of desert, and hilly badlands.
