Yes, that's what Mearls said at that time, but it wasn't what was published. Like Elminster, Mearls is an "unreliable narrator". That said, it's a great book with some really interesting tidbits for Realms fans. It's not, however, Ed's Realms per se.

Precisely. This worked for Ed. It may work for others or it may not. But I think we're quite safe making the assumption that Ed knew what he was doing. If it didn't, I am sure he would have made the changes necessary so that whatever he chose did work. You know, like all of us do.

How I wish your real Haunted Halls of Eveningstar had been published in full as the first of a series of Greenwoodian starting locations in the Realms. I cannot imagine a series of products that would have seen more use over the years. Le sigh.

I normally run games in the Realms where I know the world better than my players do. I may occasionally point out that something about the character's origin means that they will probably think something about a situation but I then point out that it's up to them how their character responds. I...
