D&D General Ed Greenwood: How The Realms Began

Great stuff! It's wonderful to see Ed here and it will be quite handy being able to point new Realms fans to this article so they can understand how the Realms began. Paradoxically, one of the reasons I liked the 4E version of the Realms was that it gave me a chance to get rid of the non-Ed...

D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker announces Project Raptor!

True, there is no dispute about the ownership of Greyhawk in those with rational minds. My point was simply that caution might be warranted about a major release until someone truly pulls her head in because who wants to be part of the drama?

D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker announces Project Raptor: A New Eberron Sourcebook!

D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker announces Project Raptor!

This is great news. The more stuff published by Keith, the fewer chances WotC has to "do a Realms" and emasculate a great setting. Mearls says lots of things, all the time. They generally mean nothing until they are confirmed by someone else at WotC without a tendency towards verbal diarrhoea...

D&D General 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]

Um, there's the implied context of my statement: In the context of the RPG hobby, players are lazier. It's neither a particularly controversial viewpoint nor lacking in logic.

D&D General 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]

Pernicious, eh? Players are fundamentally lazier than DMs. There is far less work to do as a player. There are fewer responsibilities, especially between sessions. Nevertheless, they're still a necessary component of the game and thus have value. (And as a DM-for-life, I'm glad they're lazy. :)...

D&D General 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]

People are fundamentally lazy so playing is the easy way out. By contrast, DMing requires effort and accepting responsibility: That clashes with the innate laziness of most of us. Honestly, I don't think 5E is as easy to DM as 4E. With 4E, everything is there on the stat block. With 5E you...

D&D General The Evolution of Tieflings in D&D: Interviews with Zeb Cook and Colin McComb

Actually, I think it's Wolfgang Baur who may have played a major role in the creation of the tieflings.

    D&D 4E Masterplan for 4e "content" block

I understand the author of Masterplan was sent a c&d and that he responded by restricting Masterplan from reading the official stat blocks (I'm assuming that the OP means stat blocks rather than books). Most of us using Masterplan use a cracked version without this restriction.

D&D 2.5e Haunted Halls of Eveningstar Maps

Legally, you can find the maps taken as screenshots from when the DDO MMORPG (D&D Online) hired Ed to help them with an official conversion of his original adventure. There are also some playthroughs on YouTube which may help you with the visuals. Edit: Here's an example...

What Do You Feel is Necessary or Recommended?

Yep, that's one of the many reasons why I think the best answer to the OP's question is: either subscribe to DDi tools and get everything, or find the offline version of the same. I wouldn't run 4E without the offline Compendium, CBLoader-powered Character Builder, or Masterplan for monster...
