    Aging and Gaming

Just hit my 40s and I can sympathize with avoiding complex rule systems despite completely devouring them when I was younger. I think having a more mentally challenging job hasn't helped in that regard either. Hasn't stopped me from collecting them and reading them slowly, but the chances they...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

1e Fiend Folio: This is the only D&D book I owned growing up and I had to hide it under my bed thanks to the Satanic Panic. Loved looking at the monsters and dreaming about how brave someone would actually have to be attempt to take them on. Hackmaster 4E collection: I'm still in awe of just...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I will do this, but it would be really beneficial to the conversation (not to mention quicker) if you posted relevant examples of Gygax's misogyny from the above sources. Keep in mind though, like I've said before, I focus way more on what people do over what they say. If someone says they...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I went through all your posts like you asked. I responded to the only one that seemed relevant with my thoughts. Why are you so angry with me?

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I asked for examples since it was going to be awhile before I could listen to the podcast, I don't remember you responding though.... I'm getting like 20 notifications at time, if I missed it, I'm sorry. I'm interested in learning. I love the history of D&D. To me, most of my back and forth...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

As far as I know, that's the only statement he's made to that effect and the only one that's been thrown around here ad nauseam. Apologies if I missed something important.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I don't doubt he actually said this. Personally, what people do will always trump what they say. Despite making comments like this, he did in fact hire women very early on that went on to do some really neat things for the hobby. For me, that's what's important.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Yes, yes, I think we've covered Gary was being an &*#$ and made a mean, sarcastic statement once. TO DEATH. I was asking about anyone addressing the actual foreword.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Wow, talk about demeaning TSR's women and their output to the game... From this article:

I've tried to keep up, but there are a lot of posts! No, I haven't seen your posts or examples, but will certainly dig around for them, thanks.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

To be fair, it was one complaint. The other 5000 posts were responding to others' questions that have asked me directly.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Same way I knew A Modest Proposal was satire the first time I read it? More like, "I don't think he was ever noninclusive since he made an effort to hire female staff members and seemed to really value their input, so having the opposite picture painted in the foreword is irksome."

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

An example of him being inclusive, but failing, then trying to understand why. My understanding is it was a harmless (but slightly uncomfortable) way to teach new players to be weary of wearing unidentified equipment.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

No it isn't? That's from the foreword to Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

A positive fun fact I learned today while reading up on Gygax that I didn't know: There was a little girl named Natasha that wrote Gary letters in crayon. In one, I guess she asked for a spell that made people laugh, so he made one for her and named it after her: Tasha's Hideous Laughter.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Has anyone who knew Gary personally come forward and supported this foreword? So far, I've only seen violent opposition. Any proof to the contrary would go a long way in swaying my opinion.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

@Hussar Yes, I'm the one who posted it... Personally, I don't think anything written in the foreword accurately reflects Gygax or his intentions accurately at all. Further, I haven't seen anyone who had worked for him or gamed with him back any of these statements up.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Again, that statement was made sarcastically and in no way reflects how he treated women in real life. I've seen countless positive examples of Gygax's actual behavior towards women, so far zero negative ones.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

The foreword stating he was a misogynist is what I'm pushing back on, which it looks like we both agree on. If it stated your entire first sentence I wouldn't even have taken issue.

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I'm glad they issued the apology, but kind of wished they shared their reasoning for being nasty in the first place. I'm just so confused how they could take WotC's hard work that was given to the community for free, then badmouth that same company as they resell their tweaked version of it...
