TSR Looking for information on the TSR side on an apocryphal story

There's an apocryphal story I've heard about the tabletop RPG industry in Japan that I'd like to see if there's any way to find out if it's true or not. The story goes like this: One of the common columns and featured works in Japanese tabletop RPG magazines throughout the 1980s and into the...

    There's a TERMINATOR RPG Coming!

I'm going to reserve interest until we get some additional information on what we're supposed to be playing (Future War, Time Travellers, All of the Above?)

WotC D&D Celebration Online Convention Schedule Released

You might want to adjust the formatting of the post - it makes it look like all the people on the Weaving Asian Stories panel are white people, instead of it being Daniel Kwan as the moderator with the other 4 panelists. Maybe adding a couple of lines and maybe a horizontal rule between each...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Becoming a Magic: the Gathering Set Next Year

Calling it now - Mordenkainen and Elminster as Planeswalkers cards for this set.

    ICv2's Top 5 RPGs for Spring 2020 - D&D 3PPs In The Chart!

Well, the Cyberpunk video game appears to be doing giving something of a boost for R. Talsorian Games' sales. We'll see if this continues after the video game comes up out.

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else just want a straight up Monster Manual II?

I wouldn't mind it - I've picked up some third party books like Fifth Edition Foes, but something more official wouldn't hurt.

D&D 5E (2014) Sling Stones as Magic Items

Have some elemental related effects - ongoing electrical or cold damage on impact, an explosive blast of heat. Possibly related to this - Sling Stones that can have a touch-range spell cast on them, and have the spell go off on whatever target you hit with the stone.

    LotFP in financial dire straights?

In the '90s - yes. Now, he'd be Keanu Reeves if the EN World Servers were running in our heads.

WotC New WotC Statement on Orion Black

The words are important, what actions (if any) they take after this (and how transparent they are with those actions) are equally important, if not more so.

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

We're drifting off-topic but you're covering a period with three emperors - Meiji (1868-1912), Taisho (1912-1926), and Showa. There are some significant shifts between periods (like Taisho being more progressive and reformist with some fascist rumblings in the background, before taking a hard...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

Minor correction - World War II was the Showa period (1926-1989).

    D&D 5E (2014) Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

As I mentioned earlier - Orion does make clear in his post that he's not just done working with WotC, he's also done writing TRPGs and with the whole Tabletop Gaming hobby as a whole. So any potential TRPG employer that he's alienating isn't actually a potential employer.

    D&D 5E (2014) Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

The past few months, between #MeToo and #SpeakingOut has shown otherwise - The past few weeks have had a dramatic number of bad actors and broken stairs in comics, video games, and wrestling called out for their actions - including high profile names like Warren Ellis, Chris Avallone, and the...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

As I mentioned earlier when I did my multi-book "Asian Adventures" pitch - bringing more people of different cultural backgrounds onboard in positions of leadership and authority for the writing of setting material that takes inspiration from their cultural background can only be a net positive...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

Xaolin Showdown was created by a first-generation Chinese immigrant, Christy Hui. Also, it only lasted a single season from what I can tell attempts to do follow-up series have failed. That could be due to complaints about cultural insensitivity with some of the episodes that Hui had less...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

This point I disagree on - just because D&D isn't going to be #1 in Japan doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. Japan has a thriving tabletop RPG scene, and it's clear that in Japan as in the US, there are plenty of designers of CRPGs who also play tabletop games. If you don't believe me - look at...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

That's up to the people who write the book, and making those changes isn't going to be what gets someone to change their mind and buy the book. (sighs and turns his chair around backwards) WotC isn't getting the Chinese market. It's not happening. I tap-danced around things to avoid getting...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

Short answer - because the actual plays and streams that work the most (Critical Role, Friends at the Table, etc.) are ones done by people with a familiarity to gaming, and who have gamed together before, where the action plays out organically - where the players are comfortable to express...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

The thing is, there are Japanese Tabletop RPGs - which scratch some of the same itches as D&D, and which also scratch some of the itches that I think he is trying to scratch with his hypothetical 5E OA. To stop pulling punches here - @LuisCarlos17f, what it sounds like you're describing is a...

D&D General She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms

I've really been meaning to see this play - my local High School put on a production of the play, and I meant to go see it, but stuff kept getting in the way. I'll have to try to see this.
