How far should the party hang back from the scout?

In general, I agree with the above. If a scout is absolutely necessary, I'd make sure to cast the Message spell on the scout, so we could communicate over distances, and require him to scout ahead no farther than 2 rounds ahead of the party. Any farther and he's as good as dead before...

Please Help Me With Cleric Spell Choice

With only a +2 charisma bonus at 17th level, I recommend you drop Divine Shield and pick up something else. The +2 bonus to AC isn't worth the standard action required to activate the ability. At 17th-level, one round can mean the difference between life and death.

Please Help Me With Cleric Spell Choice

My PC just hit 16th level (14th-level clerical power) and my experience has been that if you're resorting to 1st and 2nd level spells for damage dealing, you're already in a heck of a lot of trouble and should be fleeing for your life. At high levels, 1st and 2nd level spells are best used for...

    Hallow + Detect Magic

If this is the case, why not just have the Hallow effect be transparent? What is gained by having the Hallow itself create its own magical aura? Both, I'd imagine. But the trick is that those not subject to the effect can do both normally. So the faithful can step into the circle and respond...

    Hallow + Detect Magic

These are all good questions, though the necessity will depend on how he rules regarding Detect Magic. I'm looking to use Hallow for semi-RP purposes, so if Detect Magic doesn't fall the way I'd like it to, many of these questions will still be irrelevent, since they wouldn't fulfill the same...

    Hallow + Detect Magic

Interesting. I'll have to see what my DM says. I'm hoping for Ogrork's interpretation, but we shall see. Personally, I can see the logic in requiring concentration, but having the Hallow effect itself instill a magical aura seems to make the entire exercise patently pointless.

Please Help Me With Cleric Spell Choice

While not exactly parallel to your situation this thread might help you some. It's a thread I started some time ago, looking for advice on my own 15th-level PC's clerical spellcasting. Key spells I've found, as a melee combatant using mostly clerical buffing: Divine Favor, Greater Magic...

    Hallow + Detect Magic

A cleric casts Hallow and attaches Detect Magic to it, choosing to have the spell effect everyone in the area. How exactly would this play out? Say five guys walk into the area. Do any magical auras they have simply begin to glow for all to see? Or are each individually affected as if having...

"Croc Hunter" killed in underwater accident

In the end, I think this is why he took his child with him into the croc pen. He's a father doing what he loves, and he wanted to share that love with his child. Like any other man with a passion, he wanted to sow that passion in his children. I don't think what he did was any more dangerous...

    No More Multi-Classing

Interesting thread. First off, let me mention that the topic itself is all opinion. As we all know, there's no wrong way to play D&D, or enjoy D&D, or want to play D&D. We all have our various preferences which make the game fun for us. So, that said, I won't quote anyone else's responses...

    Instilling fear

A small sidenote to this advice: I'd also advise that you use caution if you follow this advice, not to attribute tactical excellence to creatures which would not reasonably have it. It's fine to have the crafty bugbear chieftain know to avoid the fighter and go straight for the wizard. Not so...

Funniest Thing That PCS Have Done/Said

Our group defeats a number of steam-powered, zombie/construct creatures, and aren't sure whether it's fully automated, or merely some kind of cyborg. The DM describes the creature has having two large tears in its outer armored shell. The cleric then decides to examine the thing to try and...

    Incredibly well-written post, Kamikaze.

    New Thundercats...

I have no problem with the art style change. I loved the original Thundercats, but a new show is going to demand new art. Just like the new Batman cartoon did not try to emulate the artwork from TAS. The complete overhaul of the concept leaves me uninterested in watching the new show...

    Would you play this?

In that case I'd say you're fine. Even if it might not be as fun as I'd like, I'd certainly be willing to burn a few sessions for a concept my DM was really into. And if you managed to hook me in the first session, even longer. ;)

    Paladins - likes and dislikes?

I like the flavor of the paladin class. I like the pokemount. It allows me to have a trusted companion and useful combat aid both. I like most of the supernatural abilities of the class. I dislike the lack of high-end abilities. An extra few points of lay-on-hands is not worth as much as...

    Would you play this?

What exactly do you mean by "one shot campaign"? Do you mean a premise that will last but a single game session, perhaps two? Or do you mean a long series of games? As a player, I'm willing to try almost anything for just one night. If you mean campaign in the way I understand it (long-term...

Help me freak out my players!

I've found that creeping out the player with in-game descriptions is very difficult. It may be because I play with folks in the 30+ age bracket, or that most of them have been playing for quite some time, but merely describing scenes you might pick up from movies doesn't usually do it. That...

Superman Sequel confirmed: Singer to Direct

I'm not sure I'd call it a flawed perspective, so much as a pragmatic, industry-insider perspective. Studios are risking huge amounts of money on movies these days. If you risk 260 million dollars of venture capital, and only get back 6% on your investment, that's a failure. In the same time...

    Staff of Power

I'd rule just plain +2 Quarterstaff as well. The various cites in this thread seem fairly clear to me.
