    Heighten Meta-Magic rod

The problem with creating a Rod of Heighten Spell is that the feat doesn't have a set cost in spell levels. Empower is +2, Quicken is +4. Heighten is....whatever you want it to be, with a sliding-scale effect based on the cost paid. A DM might create a Metamagic Rod of Heighten Spell by...

What does a DM owe his players?/ Are the rules written in stone?

In my experience, this is a fallacy. You're playing a tabletop game. Magic items are not going to feel wonderous. It doesn't matter whether they're as prevalent as in the Forgotten Realms, or as scarce as in Shadowrun. You're never going to get your players to "ooh" and "aah" by simply...

    The Superman Returns spoiler thread.

Hrm. I'm glad you put this part in. Since I thought Batman Begins was absolutely fantastic, it lets me know that you and I don't see movies in the same light. Not even close. Still...there's enough negativity in the thread to make me trepidatious. Will have to see when I get a chance to...

What spells is your high-level cleric prepping?

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys! Keep them coming! :) In response to what's been suggested so far: Foresight sounds like a very useful spell. My PC has been charged by an angel to protect one of the other members of the party (the wizard, who is a younger player and tends to have...

What spells is your high-level cleric prepping?

I currently have the Book of Eldritch Might, but not the other three, so any suggestions from the last three would need to include a short description of what they do. If the spells are something my character could make good use of, I'll track down a copy so that I can give the exact text to my...

    Paladin Question

Your brain doesn't work the same way that mine does. I cannot see how you could take the quote you cited and arrive at the statement you made. I'm going to bow out at this point, and thank God that I have a talented DM who sees things more in line with the way I do. Good gaming.

What spells is your high-level cleric prepping?

Yeah. It's a case-by-case thing. So long as the spell is balanced, I can get a hold of the source, then send a copy to my DM for approval. He doesn't really care what an outside source is. The important part is the material itself, which he'll then look at and decide whether or not he'll let...

    Paladin Question

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that not all good characters will be punished if the aren't as good as the possibly can be. Not fighters, not paladins, not anyone that isn't actually Exalted. No, an Exalted character is a character that has achieved the highest ideals of Good (if you...

    Paladin Question

I disagree. The fair warning would have come before the player rolled up a paladin. I don't mind DMs who view Good, Evil, and paladins differently than I do. As FireLance mentioned, we all interpret these issues differently, and what is acceptable to one DM won't be to another. I'm not going...

    Psionics: Worth adding in?

You know it's interesting, but I've always gotten the opposite feeling. That there are several rather rabid pro-psionics folks around these parts (not referring to you. I don't know if I've seen you participate in a psionics war thus far). Strange, how different folks can view circumstances...

Can you Power Attack with a melee touch attack?

Ah, but then it's not a touch attack any more.
  14. Lord Pendragon

    Paladin Question

I disagree. The BoED and its tennets are most certainly not meant to apply to all good characters. And a DM insisting that it did would be a bright neon sign that he and I needed to part ways.

    Attacked on introduction?

It's sad to hear this kind of story, though not really all that surprising. You're talking about a middle-school kid. Some middle-school kids are surprisingly mature for their age. Most of them are not. And as far as the wizard automatically winning. I'm not sure how it would play out if...

What spells is your high-level cleric prepping?

Pretty much anything on a case-by-case, DM-approval basis. I think I currently use three or four Spell Compendium spells already.

What spells is your high-level cleric prepping?

In a previous post I asked for advice on spells. Basically, I have a paladin with access to cleric spells. He doesn't want to step on the cleric's toes (we have one in the group) so he is mainly interested in using his spells to buff up in combat or deal direct damage, rather than heal or cure...

Using Heal to find out how someone died.

Well, as I said, I can certainly understand where you're coming from. And in most games the difference between your interpretation and mine is moot, since the more specialized knowledge I lump into Knowledge (Anatomy) isn't present in the campaign. Thank you, I certainly like to think so. :p

Using Heal to find out how someone died.

In essence, yes. It's been my experience that doing justice to even the core skills is a difficult job. You have to keep a lot of things in mind as you're designing adventures, providing lots of chances for the various skills. There are only so many opportunities in a campaign for skills to...
