Tactical arguments and how to avoid them

In the case of an encounter the party knows about and can plan for, our group has one player (me) who will usually take the time to develop a team strategy that everyone goes along with. Most of the others aren't interested enough to spend much time coming up with a combat strategy, so they're...

    Choices and railroads

In my games (and most games I've played in) loot can be assumed. So there's mechanically no "better" choice. However, some choices are naturally going to be appealing to the players. For instance, - a hook that offers to progress a PC's personal storyline (old enemy, courting a lady, etc.) -...

    Rating INT?

I agree with this statement 237%. Lion prides and wolf packs hunt using tactics that can be quite sophisticated. I tend to think of a lower intelligence as limiting the breadth of one's abilities, rather than the possibility of mastering any one ability. And, IMO, a 9 Int is mostly...

    Blade the Series!?!

I didn't have too big a problem with the science in the first two Blade movies. The premises seemed a bit outlandish, but nothing I couldn't suspend disbelief over. And I thought the action sequences and general badass-ness of Blade carried the movie well enough, even though the plot and...

Can you choose to stop your movement in mid-air?

You don't make a distinction between falling and completing a jump?

Paladins: Which do you hate more - LE or CE?

You do realize there is no choice here, don't you? A paladin cannot associate with evil. Doing so explicitly breaks the paladin code.

    D&D Technology

Meh. Automatic doors are great and all, but the Germans cooked up a bionic hand. Once you know about that, worrying about outlawing a great deal of technology because it's too advanced seems a bit of a crapshoot.

Can you choose to stop your movement in mid-air?

You wouldn't have to jump 10'. Only 5'. You only need to be five feet higher than you are to get the +1 bonus versus an opponent of equal size. If he jumped up 10', he'd need a reach weapon.

Can you choose to stop your movement in mid-air?

While as always the rules mojo of Hypersmurf is a wonder to behold, I would require another move action immediately the following round to complete a jump made "mid-turn." I would not allow a PC to jump at the end of one turn, then attack and fall in the next. Nor would I allow a PC to take a...

Paladins: Which do you hate more - LE or CE?

My paladin does not consider law sacred. He is lawful because he leads a Spartan life, a military man without a military, in essence. Regarding evil, he does not distinguish between chaotic and lawful. It should be noted that Chaotic-Evil does not mean Chaotic-Stupid. The average Balor has...

When was the last time mounts/mounted combat saw a use?

I also play a paladin with a griffon mount, but sadly I only get a chance to ride him into combat perhaps 1 in 20 session. I suppose a part of that may be the fact that Spirited Charge + Divine Favor + Divine Might + Smite Evil = almost any single target annihilated. But for the most...

How much would this item cost

Setting aside the pricing issues of the True Strike spell in particular, I'd probably price the 1/day spell effect as a slotless magic item, then add that cost as a flat +[gp value] to the cost of the armor.

What character classes are in your campaign?

Of the selected options I selected: Paladin (ours is 14th-level) Barbarian (we have a multiclassed Fighter/Barb) Fighter (same Fighter/Barb) Cleric (we hae a cleric, and a cleric cohort) Rogue (we have a Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster) Wizard (we have the above multiclass, and also a straight...

How far have you gone in a base class?

I picked 11-15, only because we haven't gotten higher yet, though I fully intend to take my (now 14th-level) paladin straight to 20 single-classed.

    Fan-TASTIC. :)

How much would this item cost

And the fact that the only folks using it will be the wizard, sorcerer, or bard/rogue with a high UMD. :p

    Natural Bond Poll

I voted "yes, but it shouldn't." Though it is my belief that the designers didn't intend for it to offset the upgrade cost of getting a stronger animal companion, the wording seems to allow it. In my game, I would disallow it, were it to come up, which it hasn't so far.

How much would this item cost

According to the guidelines for item pricing in the DMG, this is indeed correct. An inexperienced DM might therefore allow this price, not realizing the error in blindly following guidelines that aren't meant to be hard rules. A more experienced DM would flat out disallow such an item. An...

    Fighting Style Damage

A much weaker argument, since you're getting even more damage in trade. And at mid to higher levels, a fighter will have a much higher strength score to take advantage of. All of which you seem to agree with, since you say this: ...in other words: you'll have more THF and TWF fighters, and...

    Fighting Style Damage

The sword-and-board fighting style, already of dubious value, becomes completely senseless at mid to high levels.
