D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

It doesn't matter what label you affix to high level Martials; Psionic, Supernatural, Mundane, Gazorniplat, or any other made up tag you can append on them to say "But this totally isn't magic!" They will never be balanced until they receive a degree of narrative control. And by receiving such...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

Why? Not every spell has to be good for everyone. Especially when they can just pick up Greenflame Blade instead. Sure they will. Fire Bolt can't be disarmed, nor does it require weapon and focus juggling to get off Real Leveled Spells.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

The best thing about True Strike is that Mages can finally attack with their Staves, or Spears, or Crossbows, and not be a total joke of an option.

D&D 5E (2024) Bonus Unearthed Arcana Reveals The Bastion System

They finally fixed True Strike! But it's weird that True Strike does Radiant Damage and Shillelagh does Force damage. You would think it would be reversed.

[5e] Dread Metrol, The Mourning After. (Horror) (OOC)

So are we good to move upstairs?

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

This is similar to how I changed elves in my homebrew. Only instead of Mythals, it was Temples of the Land, and an Elf could change their attunement by meditation/prayer at one of them at any time, though it took several hours to do so.

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have a discussion about the assumptions we make in terms of balance?

I'm waiting on the DMG UA coming out, but I need to get that monster math, things will become much more clear then.

    The Mourning After (Horror) (IC)

The half-orc nods back, the way upstairs is unbarred for entry, when the party is ready. Sorry for the delay, I got sidetracked a bit

D&D 5E (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

I just don't see WotC doing anything like letting the fighter stab a caster to interrupt a spell right now. The Revision just isn't going to have that huge of a change to a core mechanic.

D&D 5E (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

Here are the problems as I see them: (New and presumably Revised) Monsters don't use Counterspell, they use Negate Spell. Therefore, players will not be seeing the benefits of this nerf, it's only there to make monsters harder to shut down. (And I use the term "shut down" liberally, because...

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorming Wizard Subclasses

I'm going to go with the nuclear example here because it's time to take a hard look at this: Abjuration. It's meant to invoke the "White Mage" archetype, but kind of fails in that regard due to not being able to use the most prominent kind of Abjuration spells, healing magic. (Yes, even Cure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorming Wizard Subclasses

The problem with most wizard schools is that they don't significantly change how you play a wizard.

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard (Playtest 7)

I'm expecting Crawford to be hedging his bets that one of the wizard subclasses bombs, like they typically do in UA material.

D&D 5E (2024) Getting the questions for the playtest survey?

Yes. You can watch a Youtube video of someone taking the survey. Because the surveys are up for a month, you can find such a video easily within the first week or so of it going up and then have several weeks to type something up.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

To be fair, there are quite a few fighting games that do in fact grant you momentum after you get hit.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

5e Monks are just designed backwards. And no, I'm not talking about older ideas, I'm talking about how other games focused on martial artists uses martial artist. Have you played a modern fighting game? While you do get to shoot off energy balls as projectiles off the bat, the good moves are...

    D&D 5E (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

Also I want to rant about this feature right here: Falcon. While your Rage is active, you have a Fly Speed equal to your Speed, provided you aren’t wearing any armor. Why does WoTC have a vendetta against flying in armor? Armor does not make flight overpowered, longbows do, and Barbarians are...

    D&D 5E (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

Consider the following. Most new monsters don't have magic weapons, they instead use elemental damage on their attacks. Even the humanoids. Force and psychic damage are the two most common types of damage for monsters to use now, and outside of that, you might legitimately have no idea what...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

Counterspell was always a "Less powerful than Stun" control option for players to use. While trading one PC reaction for a Monster Action is almost always a good idea, using a CON save of all things makes it highly unlikely that you would land it most of the time. (CON is one of the strongest...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

OK time for a rant! LEVEL 3: REMARKABLE ATHLETE Thanks to your athleticism, you have Advantage on Initiative rolls and Strength (Athletics) checks. In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier. Jumping...
