    D&D 5E (2014) Proposed Skill System for D&D Next

I also prefer a longer list of narrower skills, but I do agree with the divorce from a specific ability score and I like adjectives! Adjectives are good.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

I had a thought.. If 3rd level Wizards get 1st level spells, well, apart from the fact we're back to two terms both called 'level' for all the fun that brings, then it will take a 19th level Wizard to cast a 9th level spell. With a 20 level limit, we finally have a reason for the lack of 10th...

To include Mines of Madness or is this another classic joke? :p

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 4/1/2013

I completely support this apprentice tier concept - it was an obvious solution to the HP and multiclassing problems. It's also more inclusive (hah, that old argument again), since it allows people to play fragile characters if they choose, and harms nobody who wants to start off heroic, unless...

How to deal with a Monk's AC?

I can't remember, but don't enough levels of Master Thrower allow you to target touch AC? That'll probably help.

    D&D 5E (2014) Attack Bonuses

Yeah the belts are all very well meaning and traditional, but the bounds for Str bonus were smaller back then.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Cure and Inflict Wounds should be touch spells? *Now with a Survey!* REVEALED TO ALL

I also do not have a problem with certain clerics having ranged healing, but let's make this unique feature truly unique. The lightbringer's cure spells should involve light, for instance - so the target of the spell is radiated from on high and healed. The arcanist could have an ability like...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Cure and Inflict Wounds should be touch spells? *Now with a Survey!* REVEALED TO ALL

I envisage the offensive cleric not healing in combat at all - it is indeed a waste of their actions, they should be doing enough damage that enemies die quickly and nobody goes down, then they get to patch up wounds after the fight.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Cure and Inflict Wounds should be touch spells? *Now with a Survey!* REVEALED TO ALL

I have a feeling that the group would complain when you first made the decision.. but anyway, wasn't one of your reasons against touch healing that it was exclusive, because it required the DM to declare that healing spells worked at range and a DM that didn't was a jerk? Because I agree that...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Cure and Inflict Wounds should be touch spells? *Now with a Survey!* REVEALED TO ALL

That's false equivalence. If the rules say that healing spells have range, and you "choose" to play a cleric who insists on touch healing, then when you are in the middle of a fight and another player's character dies because you didn't want to risk getting killed yourself to heal them, everyone...

D&D 5E (2014) Druid Idea: Wild Shape Costing Spell Slots

If they're going to keep limiting the use of Wild Shape then I think it makes sense to use spell slots in exchange for using the ability. The trick will be making it clear that it's not a spell (though it obviously would work just fine as one you have always prepared, with the level you cast it...

D&D 5E (2014) First Level Hit Points Need to Increase

Or their racial HP are low and none of them have any class levels or hit dice, they are goblin peasants.

D&D 5E (2014) First Level Hit Points Need to Increase

I find Con score at 1st level a bit too much, but I appreciate that it means we don't have to add Con mod at every level. I think an extra quantity of HP at 1st level wants to be around the same order as the hit die range (6-12). I think these extra HP could be included as a racial feature -...

    D&D 5E (2014) Halfling Weapon Training Gone?

Happy to see the damage die increase gone, it was minor and fiddly. Proficiency is good, but the system doesn't have anything to offer those already proficient - a related martial feat for that/those weapons would be appropriate. I like the idea of your skill with a weapon becoming more about...

D&D 5E (2014) How to Play: Exploration (Stealth and Perception)

D&D 5E (2014) How to Play: Exploration (Stealth and Perception)

That's an interesting approach, but excludes where to put Wizards. They're supposed to be the analytical, knowledgable type, so it seems to me that that's what Intelligence represents, memory and processing. Wisdom is something else, it's a sense of the external, making sense of things around...

D&D 5E (2014) How to Play: Exploration (Stealth and Perception)

If only Clerics used Charisma, then we could leave Wisdom to Druids and Rangers, whom we expect to have good senses.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Deadly Strike be a level feature?

More damage dice should be a function of how well you fight with weapons, which is determined by your weapon attack bonus. Basically you have either a 'good', 'average' or 'non-existent' bonus to weapon attacks as you level, and the dice should follow that, rather than pretending to be a class...

D&D 5E (2014) Will magic be problematic at latter levels?

Taking a look at the current options for armour (which are still terribly designed), your AC probably goes up by 4 if you are in light armour, 1 if you are in medium armor and 2 if you are in heavy armour, from starting equipment to the best available. Given that the best attacks probably...

D&D 5E (2014) First Level Hit Points Need to Increase

I liked the idea in the very first packet, where your Con mod allowed you to reroll your HD if you got that score or less - it's in keeping with bounded everything. You have 12 Con, you reroll 1, 20 Con, reroll 5 or less and I would add 8 Con, reroll 10 (the other end of the spectrum). I also...
