D&D 5E (2014) First Level Hit Points Need to Increase

My biggest gripe with HP as they stand is that we're STILL adding Con mod every level, undermining the actual value of your hit die and giving certain classes yet another ability they can't scrimp on. It's fine for spellcasters though, they can prioritise Con second in almost all cases.

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

What I suggested elsewhere pretty much agrees with kerleth: I propose a radical change to expertise dice: removing the dice. You start with 2 expertise, you spend them when you like, you recover them with a short rest. I would allow you to recover 1 expertise by forgoing your reaction rather...

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

Well I wrote another thread about tidying up multiattack, but I certainly am looking forward to trying out the new expertise dice. I've wanted a fatigue mechanic for the fighter since the start, and it looks ok - it could be better: they could drop the dice part entirely and just make the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Streamline Physical Combat

Multiclassing would certainly be an option, depending on how that works out, we just don't know yet - I'm just hoping there is some way to be able to use a weapon as a Wizard, or indeed to be able to use an unusual weapon as a Rogue, or more armour - you know, proficiency stuff. If I had my way...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Streamline Physical Combat

New packet, new rules! We have: Attack modifier, that applies to weapons you are proficient in Deadly strike, that increases your damage once per turn Multiattack options to deal with mobs Feats that give access to what were maneuvers The attack modifiers are currently scaled *almost* right...

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats

I think they decided early on that feats were definitely going to be in the game. I think they could learn a lot if they first decided what customisation options should be available, and then find a way to implement those. So, for instance, combat feats now open up maneuvers - should these be...

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Next Packet Is Available

Finally had the chance to read through the majority of the packet. As ever, I like some things, I dislike other things. Some problems remain, some have changed, some have gone. Immediate impression is *still* unnecessary complexity when it's obvious how certain things can be streamlined (such...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Paladin naming convention

Someone mentioned somewhere, probably more than one person, that a good catch-all name for the class is Champion, and I think that puts across the appropriate vibe of being a chosen/special representative of whatever you're sworn to protect/destroy.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: New Packet Hits This Wednesday

A quick thought on how multiple attacks might work without dramatically increasing damage when you acquire an additional attack. Let's assume that they also move towards weapon dice affecting your damage output, rather than having martial damage dice explicitly. So, at first level you get 1[W]...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: New Packet Hits This Wednesday

If multiple attacks all have the same to-hit bonus and deal the same damage then they're actually quite quick. When I think back to mid-level games of 2E, the highly specialised Fighter would just throw them out one at a time, rolling damage with each hit and it would pass quite quickly - easily...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: New Packet Hits This Wednesday

Exciting! I am looking forward to seeing how these classes are fleshed out. Very pleased with the chance to playtest a fatigue system for the Fighter. Very curious how multiple attacks will be handled to prevent large jumps in power at certain levels. Words of power or swift spells, they should...

D&D 5E (2014) READ AND REPLY TO THIS 5E WARLORD THREAD, SOLDIER

I object to, shall we say, the Captain's Lock in the thread title. There are definitely some powers that dissociate too far for me. They way you describe Phalanx Formation implies that it should require a shield. The ability to give an ally a free attack and they get advantage on it is too...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L 3/11/2013 This Week in D&D

There are certain members of the WotC forums who make a point of saying nothing in a loud and dismissive manner on every article and quite a few threads. If you can't say something constructive, I don't think you should bother. This article seems straightforward, and hints at two things I've...

D&D 5E (2014) D&DN going down the wrong path for everyone.

I think it's an over-simplification to divide D&D fans into two, or even three groups. Just read through the playtester profile articles that have gone up over the last few months - note especially those from the guys we know and love over here on ENWorld. There's a large range of opinion - it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playtester profiles - I got interviewed

You guys seem quite moderate compared to a lot of the views I've seen expressed around wotc. That's probably why they chose you ;). I think the series highlights nicely how different games can be within the same umbrella that is D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter = Barbarian = Monk = Paladin = Rogue?

I hope they aren't all precisely identical in their advancement. We've got weapon attack modifier and martial damage dice and maybe martial damage bonus to play with in differentiating classes that use these features. Fighters feel like they should be that little bit more accurate than other...

    D&D 5E (2014) You and What Army?

I think there is a place for companions, hirelings, henchmen, animal companions, summons, constructions, familiars and any others I've forgotten. The key thing is making their power and abilities limited in scope such that they can't dominate a scenario, or replace an existing character. An...

Anyone else seeing floating monsters on the DnD site?

I see the four lines of source code producing them, and a ghost.css.

D&D 5E (2014) Human (mis) perception and how it affects gaming

Precisely, so why do you want to construct the rules such that we have unwavering perceptions of them? If you have a detailed description of the designers' intent for something then any creative interpretations you may have had before reading that are quashed, because you realise you...

D&D 5E (2014) Human (mis) perception and how it affects gaming

Why should it? At the table, if the DM and players cannot communicate with each other such that the game runs smoothly and differences in interpretation are settled with gentle debate, then the table has a problem, not necessarily the game. With trivial access to the designers' intentions, and...
