D&D General Has the meaning of "roleplaying" changed since 1e?

From my memories of the 1981-1984 period the meaning of the word role-playing as not changed. After several games of Basic D&D (Moldvay) we had a big debate about 'roll playing', 'role playing' and 'playing a class as a role'. Our group split in two over this. The other half decide to play Call...

[Day 5, Encounter 3] The heroes decide to enter the cave. The two guards stay outside with the mule to prevent an attack from the rear. A rock staircase leads to a narrow corridor. Toraden places the spell Light on a copper coin and puts it in a pocket of his robe. The corridor widens into a...

Day 2 - Encounter 2: The adventurers realize the ranger has lost his way when they reach a marsh with a bubbling pool of green-brown water. D&D 5E (2014) [Solitary Play] Dagenholt Campaign

This campaign is a hex crawl created from scratch as I go along. I'm using the excellent 5e Solo Adventurers Toolbox and a few personal solo ideas I developed over the years. The battle mat is from Loke Battle Mats. _______________________ The adventurers are Gervish a level 2 rogue, Corden a...

Essence20: The New RPG System Which Powers Hasbro Licensed Games

Reading further about the system and I really don't think this is a test for a 6th edition of D&D. Too much of a departure. Having said that I want to give it a try. Quote: "First off, as you may suspect from the name, Essence20 is a d20 based system. The core mechanic for resolving a roll is...

RPG Print News – Chaosium, Arc Dream, Osprey, and More

Osprey has had a very good selection in the past 5 years. I've bought several of their games. Frostgrave, Broken Legions, Gaslands, Romance of the Perilous Lands and Reality's Edge.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay vs Warhammer Age of Sigmar Roleplay

Never liked the grim dark setting of WHFB. Never played the rpg. I'm currently reading the Soulbound AOS rpg starter set. The play style is between D&D and Exalted. The system uses d6 pools which is the same as the wargame.

RPG Print News – Chaosium, Arc Dream, Osprey, and More

Sigil and Shadow. I own BareBones Fantasy. d00Lite is a 'profession as skill system'. Very simple and effective. It's derived from the old Star Frontiers skill system.

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

It does but this time I managed to organize a board game night with the 2 players who are available. Not a total loss of gaming time. (1,000th message, not sure if it's good or bad!)
