    Ultimate Magus Build assistance

A great 3rd level spell is Shivering Touch, assuming the DM lets it slide of course. It's capable of reducing a creature's Dex to 0, and at 0 Dex a creature is helpless as per that entry. A helpless creature can be given a coup de grace. If you're worried about the touch range, that's what...

    D&D 3.x 3.5.........gestalt / template build question(s)

I know of no feat that simply makes Power Attack do 2x damage every time. However, Leap Attack allows one to make a jump check and then get +100% to their PA as per the conditions in the feat. And you wouldn't get 4 "proper" attacks with knockdown. You'd get the two from BAB, and if either...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 half celestial template

Hoping to clarify the fractionals a bit in case you're confused: Fighters of course have 1/1 BAB. Clerics and rogues, etc, have 3/4, and wizards etc have 1/2. Going this route helps a bit if multiclassing is common in the game. And then there's gestalt. Depending on one's interpretation...

    D&D 3.x 3.5.........gestalt / template build question(s)

Just make sure to remember that you can't trip something that is already tripped. And you can't use a trip attack as an AoO against something that is standing up since it's considered prone until it actually manages the full stand. So if you hit a prone creature for at least 10 damage with...

    D&D 3.x 3.5.........gestalt / template build question(s)

You're not a truly effective tripping machine unless you have Knock-down too. Also, there's a Barbarian ACF from Complete Champion called Lion Spirit Totem. It trades your fast movement for the ability to full attack on a charge. Another Barb ACF is from Unearthed Arcana and it gives you...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Perhaps I should have been more clear. If the DM wants the players to even consider the desert as something more than an obstacle to be bypassed or crossed, he should make it interesting enough beforehand that it's likely the players will think of it as a goal unto itself. Expecting...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

You seem to think we're talking about the basilisk's gaze save, yes? That wasn't what we were going on about. What we were discussing was whether the basilisk got a save against the Dust of Disappearance. I made my biggest contribution to that debate here if you want to look at it. And a few...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Well, part of the thinking was that a DM might be able to lead the players into thinking that the road is important enough to be worth traveling to the next destination, so to speak. I admit it probably takes quite the DM to set up the session such that that's what the players will want to do...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 half celestial template

Apologies if this gets posted more than once. The forum is acting up and is having problems taking a reply. First of all, what books do you have access to? Complete Warrior has several good PrCs for warrior-types. Tome of Battle makes martial types much more viable because you don't have...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 half celestial template

First of all, what books do you have access to? Complete Warrior has several good PrCs for warrior-types. Tome of Battle makes martial types much more viable because you don't have to rely on your full attack to deal damage. Spellcasters get to move and cast a spell that is likely far better...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Situations like that seem a bit hard on the players to me. If the party had come across a Djinn Lord who could do all manner of things, including whisking the party across the desert quickly and safely, wouldn't you have prepared for that possibility? The first thing that came to my mind in...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

If you're still talking about the basilisk, the gaze rules only specify that the characters not look at the creature's face (or wherever the gaze attack comes from). They can still look at its body and not suffer a 50% miss chance, though they do still have the 50% chance to see the gaze...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

If a Deck of Illusions had a save listed there in its description, that's what the save would be. There is no save listed in the item's description. That is the crux of the argument. The vast, overwhelming majority of wondrous items that do replicate spells specifically list the save, even if...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

My point was that unless the specific item lists that it, not the spell it's based on, has a save, it is very safe to assume it doesn't have one if it's such things as wondrous items. Your point was that because it replicated a spell in a particular way, that it would thus replicate the spell's...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Dust of Disappearance's rules are as follows: The first sentence isn't pertinent to this discussion. The second sentence spells out the creature or object touched becomes invisible as per greater invisibility. Note that it only seems to mention the invisibility aspect of the spell, which is...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Because it seems to need referencing again, Dust of Sneezing and Choking has saves against Con damage, but has no save against the stunning effect. The exact wording is: "Those who succeed on either saving throw are nonetheless disabled by choking (treat as stunned) for 5d4 rounds." The usual...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

One of the more interesting tactics I've heard of is using Dust of Sneezing and Choking against something. Automatically stuns the target for 5d4 rounds, so it's pretty much a "screw you."
