Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

I mean, if I really wanted to say one thing, it's that while the proficiency modifier is great for attack bonuses, DCs, etc, it's just not great for skills. If you wanted to create a basic skill point system where you could have skills go up, but only go up to something like +6, that's actually...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

You can do that, but that's a GM choice and it's something that has come about with time. You also can't gate everything, since certain things are just going to be things anyone can do, at which point generally people who have the attribute are going to outshine those who don't (Until the...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

I can't reconcile the first paragraph with the second. The bounded accuracy problem is that it makes skills less meaningful because everyone can roll; it creates points where having a skill is less meaningful than having the attributes. Combined with the lack of distinction with skill along with...

WotC Roll for Combat got to try the 3D vtt and he seems to like it. Live streaming now.

Ah, see, I LOVE doing stuff with miniatures like that. I want to build one of those virtual tables out of a flatscreen for just that sort of thing. And yeah, the setup can be time-consuming, but I find it to be rewarding and almost artistic in the better ones. For Foundry, it's fairly easy. I...

I mean, listening in and I don't think I'm terribly impressed with what is being described? I mean, it sounds functional, which is good, but also I suppose the limitations are the opposite of what I want from a VTT. That's obviously a taste thing, but I find the whole "I like to do theater of...

WotC Roll for Combat got to try the 3D vtt and he seems to like it. Live streaming now.

This is interesting. Might be a function to keep the need for hardware down, but not a bad solution, in all honesty. Also keeps other VTTs viable if they can actually have a full dungeon on the table. But this reminds me of how Critical Role does their setpiece fights. Does mean people get to...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

The crafting "rules" in the PHB are 4 paragraphs that only cover non-magical items and, again, are incredibly broad. These aren't as much rules as sort of a guideline for allowing people to do things. Calling them "rules" would imply some sort of system, but this is more of an afterthought to...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Xanathar's doesn't really have "rules" on crafting as much as it has a page of very broad "guidelines". I really wouldn't call them "substance" as much as "placeholder".

Pathfinder Player and GM Core Are Now Available

Yeah, at a certain point you just miss things, no matter how much you read over it. Having thousands of others looking through the book without the same preconceptions the editors might have (especially when they are searching for changes) will catch things they will have missed.

I also think that, at a certain level, the people moving over like to have things like updates where it feels like the game designers are responding to what people say are problems with the game. Look at 5E, which has been notoriously resistant to any sort of large-scale updating of things...

Pathfinder Player and GM Core Are Now Available

Honestly I'm kind of confused as to why people think there is a whole lot of errata in here. There are some editing mistakes and the Death/Dying thing, but beyond that it's basically superior version of the CRB. Things are just much easier to find and the book itself is easier to use. I can...

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

Yeah, 4E was clearly leaning into the idea of cinematic set piece fights that are interesting and important, rather than the more traditional, naturalistic idea based around attrition and "combat as war" stuff. The problem was that the adventures were doing the classic D&D thing of fighting the...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Remaster's Death and Dying rules are brutal.

It impacts it when you gain the dying condition. When you get the dying condition, it's 1+your current wounded condition. The impact is basically so that you don't get an infinite unconscious-heal loop. You basically can hit the ground 3 time and get up before you risk death.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Remaster's Death and Dying rules are brutal.

Called it. Not surprised, though nice that they "clarified" quickly rather than letting the issue fester. The other mistakes in the errata are pretty minor by comparison, especially with the redesign of stuff like the Witch.

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

I'm not sure how you do that without making the game very different than it currently is, and I'm not actually sure how much value there is to that. Like, what extra bonuses do you attach between pluses that feel meaningful? Not sure how much you can really fit in that space, and I think moving...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Remaster's Death and Dying rules are brutal.

Yeah, this was a widely-misunderstood rule before and they chose the much less popular option. I suspect you'll see most playing it by the old idea of what the rules were, and I'd wager you'll see that eventually become the proper rule given the popularity. I don't think it's something Paizo is...

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

They can if you want them to. You have the option of taking two free ability boosts, or you can use the more traditional boosts that give you 3 boosts (two predetermined and one free) with a flaw.
  18. Justice and Rule

Player Core and Gamemaster Core Remastered Review

The concept of ability scores makes sense when you are rolling 3d6 or 4d6 for stats, but once you move away from that there's really no point. They're just so rarely used beyond the modifier they grant.

Pathfinder 2E PF2 Remaster PDFs have been sent out! Talk about/ask questions about them here.

Yeah, the idea is that you added 1+ your current Wounded # if you fail a recovery check. It's... not great, though I've heard people debating that it might be a mistake or bad language (the idea being that your Wounded # isn't meant to be readded as much as you are basically retotaling the...

Was that a change or just spelling out the intent? I don't think we played it like that, but thinking about it now that seems like a "This was our intent, it simply was not obvious". Also, boy howdy does that make for some interesting stuff with a Flurry Ranger.
