    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

They're meant to be an unarmed combat master. If I wanted "elusive skirimisher", that's literally the job of the Rogue, who doesn't have to pay any points to just Bonus Action Disengage/Dash/Hide. In fact, they could actually do what you are saying the Monk could do even better, since they don't...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Truly the playstyle of a Monk. :p Again, incredibly Monkish to be whacking people with maces. ;) I feel like this speaks to how Weapon Masteries are not where they need to be that it's better for the Monk in these scenarios to just rely on weapons than their class features. It really needs...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Feats

Just give both. Given the stat array currently out there, I don't think there's really much risk in getting a massively overpowered character if one were to get both a Feat and an ASI.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Yes, exactly. I go on about it all the time, but the Grit mechanic Matt Mercer used/borrowed for his Gunslinger is a good one, where certain conditions recover a point. And honestly, I feel a bit inspired for whatever reason, so let's work on a few things. In particular, I started remembering...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

I don't think these ones are necessarily the ones, but I do think a "Spend more to get more" design is something that could be interesting in certain ways. In fact, I think that'd be a cool niche for the Elementalist, where they can boost the output of something for an extra DP.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

These specific ideas aren't really my bag, but I think this sort of thought-process and design space is way more interesting and should be used more.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

They are similar, but not quite the same. Either way, things improve, yes. I just think it's better to assure someone they'll always have their gimmick and focus on just letting the monk do more. I think the biggest thing to improve here are stuff like Deflect Missile by allowing people to do it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

    Eh, sure. Either way works.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Nah, just let them do more things for free! I thought about doing something similar like this and when I tested it, it sucked to have to take a turn doing nothing just to be able to do something the next turn. Then you get on a loop where you do something, recover, do something, recover. It's...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Just say "Add Proficiency modifier you'd have with only your Monk levels" or some other, better way of phrasing that.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

That's great and all, but I posted the rules for 2E and they don't conform to what you say. In fact, they say the GM can use their best judgment on their effects, so I don't really see the problem. If anything, it seems like they fixed something.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

Wall of Fire Flame Strike Neither talks about what happens to other objects because, as I already quoted, that's up to the GM under the RAW.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

I did! There's nothing mentioned of what you talk about! It took me following the path to Object Immunities, at which point I saw where they talked about items normally have to be directly targeted. Given that you are directing me to the vehicle rules, I suspect you actually didn't read it...

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

I don't see anything here that indicates this. I think you are confusing the fact that they have Object Immunities with the fact that this is found in the Item section, and that Items typically have to be directly targeted otherwise a Fireball would basically destroy anything and everything you...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

The problem is that Discipline points don't scale like spell slots do, especially when your late-game powers are going to be using 1/5 of your total points.
  16. Justice and Rule

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

They aren't if they don't have any Discipline Points, which is the point. The problem currently with the Monk as spec'd is that they are reliant on a resource to do most of the stuff that actually relates to their subclass. You want to use your powers? Well, you start with two points of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Feats

Because it's a bad choice. You are not given many ways of customizing your character after creation beyond choices you make within your class. And two major ways of customizing your character (ASIs and Feats) are put in direct competition with one another, so instead of getting more options to...

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

Plenty of people get so far out of practice that they just can't do something anymore. Especially with a skill like boxing, where it isn't just knowing things but actual muscle memory that needs to be constantly practiced or you'll lose it.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

Or people just move away from things and train in new things. Y'know, it does happen.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

I've heard people wanting to use the Simple DCs as a basis for things like Recall Knowledge, basing it on their rarity rather than level, and that's probably a smart way to do things; even if something is high CR if it's fairly common then you'll be likely to know something about it. Given that...
