Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

It really depends on the type of game you want. But d20 is not really built under those assumptions, which means it requires more than a bit of work to get that sort of feel out of it... and it's never going to feel right, regardless.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Honestly I would be down for it, but I think we have to recognize that this is sort of an ancestral aspect of d20 systems: they've never really been built to handle lingering conditions that aren't, like, plot-important. Most of the time it's just about healing yourself up, not about what wounds...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

And we do see that in the stuff like the crafting rules and such, as well as the proliferation of healing abilities all around. Paizo is very much big into being able to run their PFS games RAW. Not saying that it works any different, but I think in part the APs are simply much more direct...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I would not use PFS as an example for the reasons @billd91 describes. But I'm sure, compared to other D20 systems, a lot more PF people are AP people because one of Paizo's big strengths is supposed to be their adventures. Hell, I remember running a decent portion of one (Wraith of the...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I find APs for most systems (but especially D20) are designed in a very specific way for a very specific audience that wants stuff now rather than later. I'm not sure that it talks about how the game necessarily should be played, but rather the sort of people who are more likely to buy pre-made...

Pathfinder 2E Never give up on PF2

Nah, you're good. My problems with PF2 (outside some sort of add-mechanical quibbles that I can fix) are that it's still stuck in the sort of healing/damage assumptions of D&D, which has never been great at figuring out how to do long, lasting damage/injuries as well as long recovery (Or at...

Pathfinder 2E Never give up on PF2

Eh, it's adjustable. The nice thing is that they did a lot of work outlining how to do the adjustments, if you so do. :)

    Looking for D&D-like alternatives to D&D 5e

Yeah, this kind of hits on the problems I was having recommending everything else. The 5E-ish games are still going to have similar if not the same conceptions and ideas. Hard to say they wouldn't get bogged down in the same problems. With MCDM and Daggerheart, I am excited for both games (the...

    Looking for D&D-like alternatives to D&D 5e

I am a big booster of it, but as you describe it, it really sounds like Pathfinder 2E might be the thing you want? Looking at your group: The DM: PF2 definitely has crunchier, tactical combat on a grid with rather fantastic VTT support on Foundry VTT. You'd have to learn how to use Foundry...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Thank you. I know I've seen them elsewhere (I think Reddit?), but I'm not on the forums and Google's search is terrible nowadays. Edit: Wow, actually missing some interesting discussions on their forum. That second one regarding moving away from the 6-Part AP is interesting, as it really does...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I'll be real: the big reason why I had to make up monsters in 5E was because most of them really sucked, and making them interesting was not something I typically did on the fly. You can make up NPCs on the fly without problem in PF2; you just need to know what you want out of them and the...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Proficiency will come naturally. Honestly it's basically the same as 5E but adding level. I do get being overwhelmed with Traits/Tags, largely because some of them use verbiage that is similar to 5E but not in the same way. I remember looking at the "Concentrate" tag and trying to figure out...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I will say that the youngins I used to play 5E with have converted over to playing an in-person version of PF2 with like a 6-person party. There are a decent amount of open Pathbuilder instances, but several of them still use sheets.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

I believe they had stated as such with the release of PF2, saying that they could see the writing on the wall if they didn't do something different because sales were starting to trail off. I can't find it right now because Google sucks, but I know they have basically stated so in the past.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Starfinder 2E might be a bit easier because you're at the start of the cycle, rather than after several big books and a whole remaster. Might help you get over the hump of learning/knowing things by not feeling like you have a whole bunch of "homework", but are starting with everyone else. I...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

VTT integration has been a lifesaver for a bunch of games I like, particularly games that run with dice pools. I'm a guy who computes quickly, so it never bothered me, but it definitely helped many in my group.

    D&D 5E (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

Maybe. I think when people talk about "PC Power", it's more wrapped in other abilities like spells and such or unbalanced features. Doing something that increased PCs basically across the board seems less controversial, but I could be wrong.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Ah cool, like to know that this works in a particular set of circumstances and not most of them. Again, if we have to get very specific, that's not exactly the "practice" as much as "what we need to get it to work". I think you mean "Not forgoing", as that means to not do something. FOB can...
