It seems to me that D&D 4e is not asserting its own identity, the one that has been established over the past 30 years. It is trying to create a whole new identity.

How is the look of D&D 4e non-traditional? I think that by making so many changes (in terms of art and fluff) D&D is in fact losing its unique identity and becoming more generic.
