There is explicit wording in shield that it can prevent the attack from hitting at all. Uncanny dodge doesn't say that. On the other hand, it makes no sense to apply it only after applying the effects of the attack, because that would be a healing power.

No more than being knocked unconscious does. The spell doesn't say "and cannot take reactions until its next turn, not even reactions that occur before the effects of this spell are resolved". That would be specific.

For most purposes, it doesn't matter whether uncanny dodge happens before or after the hit. But here's a thought experiment for you: You have five hit points. You are hit for 8 points of damage. The attack would, in general, qualify for Uncanny Dodge. Can you use Uncanny Dodge to halve the...

D&D 5E (2014) Rolled character stats higher than point buy?

This simply isn't true, though. People do in fact take the stats they roll sometimes.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the point of material components when Wish exists?

At 17th level, it's worth more than 1500gp because you can earn a hell of a lot more than 1500gp in 8 hours.

D&D 5E (2014) Rolled character stats higher than point buy?

Well, I can prove that it doesn't occur, because "normally always" isn't a think. Either it's always or it's not always.

D&D 5E (2014) Rolled character stats higher than point buy?

Our GM said we could reroll if we ended up with low overall bonuses, although I don't think anyone actually did. I dunno; it's just not that common to get really bad rolls overall. We do have one character in our group with a 3, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] A Blast From the Past: Wizarding 101

I don't think I remember any point in previous play where a damage-oriented wizard was as effective as a control or utility wizard.

    D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] A Blast From the Past: Wizarding 101

I'm so confused. Fireball? That's a damage spell. If you want damage, why on earth are you playing a wizard? Wizards are for control.

D&D 5E (2014) Too cheap to hire a lawyer, so I'll ask gamers...

I am pretty sure that if money is involved in any way, failing to get competent legal advice is the worst idea. Short of, say, getting it and then acting contrary to it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

You could infer that, but it's not stated, and it's not obvious that it would work that way. And honestly, I just don't buy it. I think it makes sense for paladins, whose power is their own faith and force of will, to use Charisma, while clerics, whose power is someone else's that they have to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition driving people back to 1st/2nd edition.

No, I don't. Because I don't actually care. I'm willing to accept the apparent widespread success at face value. You're the one trying to convince people that the game isn't doing well. Show your work! I dunno. I certainly haven't, and wouldn't under any conceivable circumstances. I'd stick...

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

So what? It's the save you use against things that willpower would have been a defense against. I do note that the rest of the text mostly stopped mentioning willpower-type things, but it's still how the stat is used.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition driving people back to 1st/2nd edition.

But sales rankings suggest that it's selling pretty well. Do you have actual data showing that 5e is selling poorly? You've been starting threads on how 5e is dead and 5e is a failure and 5e is unpopular forever, but I've never seen actual data for this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

The "wisdom" stat is also your resistance to attacks on your decisions, so it is being used for faithfulness or resolve.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

Clerical spellcasting isn't related to evangelism, it's related to their ability to channel the will of the divine. Not their own will, someone else's. Wisdom.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

I don't think this is really right at all. Clerical power comes from understanding their religion's teachings, not from force of personality. They're conduits for someone else's power, they're not primarily using their own emotions or ability to project their feelings.

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

I had a theory of elves having elaborate bio-engineering going on so that elf bodies naturally accumulate rare trace minerals and assemble them, so when an elf dies at a couple thousand years old, bits and pieces of their body are usable as a starting point for weapons and armor.

D&D 5E (2014) Wizards and bonus actions - not just for bonus action casting cost spells?

There is an interesting quirk introduced by the fact that there is no standard action of "do something that would otherwise require a bonus action". In general, bonus actions are faster than other things, but they're mutually-exclusive. So if you have two options, which are both bonus actions...

D&D 5E (2014) How might elven societies be different from the norm?

In one of the games I play in, we were travelling and came across some elves. The elves had wagons, sort of; they'd been overgrown and settled into the ground. I'd guess they'd been there 50-100 years. They determined which direction we were coming from, and which direction we were going, and...
