Advice needed - buying a new PC

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I ended up going with Dell since the only place I could find locally that builds PCs wanted to charge me more money for a less powerful computer. I got something pretty decent for just a tad over $1k. I don't do enough PC gaming anymore to justify the price of a...

    OOtS: 615 It's a Real Life-Saver.

Celia is pretty obviously Roy's player's new PC, so he's probably trying a completely different character concept. Pacifist sylph is about as far from Roy as you can get.

Advice needed - buying a new PC

Thanks for the replies. I have a pretty good idea of what I want for the PC; I've done some reading on the subject and I'm going with Intel for the CPU and NVidia for the video card. I'll check around with local stores, but I'm not sure what my options are there. Does anyone have any favorite...

Advice needed - buying a new PC

So, I'm looking to buy a new desktop PC. The one I have right now is old enough that I figure it's not worth trying to upgrade it piecemeal; it's better to get an entirely new system. So I'm looking for advice on where to get it. Option 1 is to buy from Dell or some other major PC company; while...

    Fantasy authors worth the reading.

Someone who hasn't been mentioned yet - Neil Gaiman. American Gods is well worth a read if you're looking for something unusual - it's a fantasy story set in modern-day America.

Any fans of the Might & Magic games still alive?

Really? HOMM2 is her favorite? That's interesting, because HOMM3 is basically the same game, only greatly expanded and improved. I enjoyed HOMM2, but HOMM3 is one of my all-time favorite turn-based strategy games. They went in a different direction with HOMM4, and it wasn't as good IMO (and...

Any fans of the Might & Magic games still alive?

MM6 is a lot more playable if you use the correct party - four pure spellcasters. Knights are basically worthless in MM6 (they were vastly improved for MM7 and 8, and kick ass in those games, but in MM6 they're just dead weight), and paladins and archers aren't much better. The best class in MM6...

    Buffy cartoon pilot

A while back (I can't remember how long ago now), they were talking about making a Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. The series would have told more stories set while the characters were still in high school. It never got off the ground, but they did make a 3&1/2 minute pilot episode...

    (PC) FPS game recommendations

You simply must get The Orange Box. It has: Half-Life 2 - The best single-player FPS ever made, hands down. If you were a fan of the original Half-Life, you will probably love the sequel. Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2 - Neither was as good as Half-Life 2, but they are still head and shoulders...

Still holding out for a new Baldur's Gate game...

Meh. I loved BG2, but after the disappointment that was ToB, I can take or leave the idea of another game. Though it's been long enough now that a new game using a different D&D ruleset might work really well.

A Dance With Dragons Release Date Accurate?

That's why I didn't buy A Feast For Crows when it came out. The first three books came out at a reasonable pace, but then we had 5-6 years in between A Storm of Swords and Crows. I wasn't about to reread the entire series (which I would have had to have done to re-familiarize myself with the...

Any fans of the Might & Magic games still alive?

As I recall, one of the lead designers for MM9 admitted that the game needed about two more months of work, but they were forced to release it early because 3DO went out of business. I'm glad I avoided buying that one. Though I think there's a fan patch out for it now that gets it to run...

A Dance With Dragons Release Date Accurate?

Never believe a release date you see on amazon.com. I'm convinced they have employees whose only job is to sit around all day and make those things up.

    Farscape Q

They'll probably release a series megaset eventually. You could just wait for that.

Dr. Who Season 4 Episode 11: "Turn Left" SPOILERS

I read somewhere that Billie Piper forgot how to do Rose's accent, so she was basically just faking it as best she could.

    Good offline CRPG for XP/Vista

The Fallouts are good too (well, the first one, anyway; the second one was good too, but was hamstrung by being buggy as all get-out), but I don't think they've aged as well as Torment has. Still worth playing if one hasn't played them before, though.

    Good offline CRPG for XP/Vista

Have you played Planescape: Torment? Best PC RPG ever made, even though it's almost 10 years old now.

    Burn Notice

I loved the first season of Burn Notice. It was great fun while it was on, and then I wouldn't think about it again until the next episode. The perfect summer show. Here's hoping this season still has the magic.

Final Fantasy XII sucks. Period. Fact.

I didn't like FF8 much. Mainly because I really couldn't stand the main character. I don't have much patience for whiny-ass emo teenagers, and that translates to video games, too. And the whole plot device of "We all knew each other back at the orphanage!" was really stupid. And the combat...
