Where Has All the Magic Gone?

    I miss my Eversmoking Bottle.

Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

While that is obvious, you are neglecting to consider two things... 1) The rate of new books is greater with 4.0E than in previous editions. 2) 4.0E is a more radical change from 3.5E than in past editions. I could still use books from 2.0E in my 3.5E game with minor tweaking, but not so much...

Introducing Far Eastern players to D&D D20

Instead of using a module, consider building your own campaign based in a regional ruin like Mingun. http://www6.worldisround.com/photos/4/425/188.jpg

Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

4.0E is a change from 3.5E... and some people naturally resist change. But I found that to be false - People mostly resist change they have no control over. I base that on my years of work experience implementing quality systems based on crap good stuff like ISO-9000. I know that if WotC had...

For Those Who Love, Hate, or Love & Hate 4E: What Did 4E Do Right?

Skills: I like the simpler system of 17 skills rather than 30 to 40. We house-ruled Quickness (initiative) as the 18th skill. I do not like that all skills go up at the same rate. perhaps a system where you increase 12 skills by one, and have five to double up on well practiced favorites. I like...

Do your PCs use Rituals regularly?

I play the party Wizard, and I cast many rituals each game. The Cleric and the Warlock who also have the feat, but they have cast less than ten rituals between them in total. Forked Thread: How can I play a teamwork-focused Evil character?

When I play evil, that character is usually greedy and power hungry, and has little concern for the plight of the local orphanage. If I kill someone, it is for a specific reason. And I usually see the group's success as an advantage for me, so I work to make my associates to be successful too...

Forked Thread: How can I play a teamwork-focused Evil character?

A corrupter is monstrous evil for the sake of evil. That is generally not playable in a group setting. Greedy evil is.

Forked Thread: How can I play a teamwork-focused Evil character?

For the most part, an evil character is greedy and self centered, but has no desire what so ever to do bad things. But since he seeks wealth and power by whatever means possible, he has no compunction to not do some bad things to get them. And even evil creatures have their limits. An evil...

So that's why you like it

That type of player is likely to "stab each other in the back" regardless of whichever alignment they write on their character sheet. I've seen some good aligned groups that were disfunctional. Wow, I have no answer to that. I've seen functional Evil groups have a hard time playing Good...

Magic Items that lost their magic

It can be spent on followers, or for building a fortress. There are no rules for it in 4.0E. A DM would either have to make it up from scratch, or base it on previous editions. Henchmen would have a salary whether they are minion/thugs, or standard/specialists. And fortresses would be...

Magic Items that lost their magic

Unfortunately to get magic items in 4.0E, you just imagine that item, stick it in a microwave, add gold, an Viola... instant magic item!

Magic Items that lost their magic

Have you seen cloak of invisibility then? If you've seen it, then it can't be very good.

    Tenser's Floating Disk

Here is our interpretation... It can be nearly invisible but shimmering, or any color you wish. If you cast the level six utility Invisibility while you are on it, it can be invisible with you. If you create it later after the utility, it can not be invisible.

Why doesn't 4th ed have rituals for making "traps"?

Balance sucks. There are many great things in 4.0E, but this drive for balance has spoiled alot of it.

So that's why you like it

That is not an example of evil in D&D, that is an example of stupid and anti-social behavior on the part of the player. This is correct, I've seen evil played very well as a team.

So that's why you like it

Someone said upthread that good and evil were subjective concepts. Or the campaign where the humans, elves or dwarves encroached on the land belonging to the orcs and killed them like vermin. When the orcs fought back and kidnapped the two children of the local prince to get the attacks on...

So that's why you like it

That type of player is likely to "stab each other in the back" regardless of whichever alignment they write on their character sheet. Rule #1 of our game... Thou shalt not kill another player character. We were evil, and we attacked and sabotaged each others' interests outside of adventures...

So that's why you like it

Evil characters need not be monsters. Chaotic characters need not be anarchists. Players that are immature are more likely to play in a game that implodes, regardless of alignment. The longest running campaign I was involved in was mostly evil, and the group was the most efficient destruction...
