    Five second rule

Careful! While the density of bacterial contamination may be higher in some places than others (a fact that is sometimes made in TV ads for cleaning products), the concentration of different species and varieties of bacteria is very different (a point I have never seen made in an ad for a...

    Five second rule

No, why? When it comes to food safety, it's better to use the worst case scenario, not the best. As most people don't know how contaminated a surface that food has landed on is, it's safer to test the hypothesis with a highly contaminated surface than a lightly contaminated one. If the...

    Five second rule

The 5 second rule is a myth. No amount of contact between food and a contaminated surface is safe however fleeting. http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/homehygiene/Pages/does-the-five-second-rule-really-work.aspx

    Only in America

The OP asked about identifiably American "things" scene in movies/TV. Here is my list based not on films or telly, but on my experience of living in the US, Europe and Asia. I have confined myself to anything that can be perceived directly including audio-visuals. I'm not going to cover...

    D&D Lego minifigures

As you may already know, Kre-o, Hasbro's construction toy brand, has recently released a D&D line in the US. This has allowed me to fulfil a long-held ambition of creating a Lego-like minifigure of Drizzt without having to resort to heavy modifications such as painting Lego parts. Here is a...

    D&D voted no.3 favourite toy/game!

For sure, Jane Goldman (Ross' wife) is a gamer geek. But so is (or was) JR. He's been seen shopping for himself at Orc's Nest (Orcs Nest Online Games Shop). Apparently, Paul Ross (Jonathan's brother) DMed their games when they were younger.

    D&D voted no.3 favourite toy/game!

According to a Channel 4 programme that was broadcast last night that ranked the 100 favourite toys (and games) ever, D&D is number 3! You can see the programme online for the next 29 days at: 100 Greatest Toys with Jonathan Ross - 4oD - Channel 4 . You may need a proxy server if you're...

    NYC groups?

Hello, New Yorkers! I'll be in midtown Manhattan during the first week of May and was wondering if there were any 4E games I could join just for the one time. I'm familiar with 4E: I've been playing 4E once a week in London, UK since 4E came out (and previous editions before that going back to...

    Dice Questions?

Jools, I have a d20 that has the kanji for 'good luck' on 19 sides and 'bad luck' on the 20th. It's meant for fortune telling. As far as I know, no one makes a d20 marked 1 - 20 in Japanese. I've searched several times for one in Tokyo but haven't had any luck. Zander

What do you get out of signatures?

The first part of my sig is an inside joke but not limited to my friends; if you know my real name, you can appreciate why that part of my sig is droll. As for the second quote, that's kind of an up-front encapsulation of my beliefs about D&D as well as a tribute to Gary.

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

Apologies for the OT post but... I don't think anyone would include the words "micro" and "soft" in the name of a sex toy. The Grandma Rule (TM) prevents me from explaining why. :p

    BBC4, Gaming and Image

I noticed that too. Some of the footage was from 1982 and 1984. They also had someone off-camera saying they thought D&D started in 1975! Incidentally, how are you able to view it in Japan? I thought that BBC i-player didn't work outside the UK.
