    Help ID products/items!

On page 26 of the September issue of Dragon (#359), there's a really cool painting by Jeff Carlisle showing Mordenkainen surrounded by loads of D&D products and items from various D&D worlds. What are the products and items? I've identified some but not all as follows. Left, shelf top, back...

New book: Worlds and Monsters - any ideas?

According to this post by Curt of Games Plus, WotC is bringing out a book next year titled Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters "that gives a behind-the-curtain glimpse into the making of D&D". I find this intriguing. I wonder if it'll examine D&D's game mechanics from OD&D onwards or just the...

Swift spell + move = AOO?

That's what I meant. Sorry if I was unclear. :o Is that right that the wizard could cast Swift Exp Retreat and withdraw without provoking any AOOs?

Swift spell + move = AOO?

Imagine an M-sized caster in a square adjacent to an M-sized opponent with a non-reach weapon, e.g. an elven wizard next to an orc armed with a shortsword. If the magic user casts Expeditious Retreat, Swift from the Spell Compendium, his opponent doesn't get to take an AOO. But what if the...

DnD Miniatures, Where to buy singles?

I don't know about online stores located in Denmark, but in the UK, I highly recommend Adventures Gate. They're fast, accurate, protect the minis well and their prices aren't bad. They despatch to Denmark.

When did the first hobby game store open in your area?

AFAIK, the first store in London that specialised in RPGs was Games Workshop located at 1 Dalling Road, Hammersmith. At the time, it was the only Games Workshop. The Dalling Road store has since relocated to nearby King Street and the Games Workshop chain has grown just a bit since then. :p...

Real illusions - Can you make your save?

True which is why at the museum you were either forced to view the paintings monocularly through spy holes or advised to close one eye. Mind you, if the object depicted was small and flat, the illusion worked even when viewed through both eyes. At the museum, a painting on the floor of a...

Real illusions - Can you make your save?

If you've ever wondered what being fooled by a magical illusion would be like, here are a couple of photos I took at the museum of illusions near Mount Takao, Japan. One photo appears to show an Egyptian statue but in reality the 'statue' is only a painting on the wall. The other photo appears...

    Shrek 3 questions

I saw a trailer for Shrek the Third today. What are the evil treemen and the bumbling wizard called in the film? Are there action figures of them?

    Best Fantasy comics?

Check out Frank Frazetta's DeathDealer which is currently on issue #2 of 6. You should be able to find #1 easily enough. I very much hope they reprint the entire series in one volume when they're done.

    Places to shop in Chicago

Hello, Mike ;) I'd go further than that. I'd say it was among the best RPG stores in the world. It just happens to be in Chicagoland.

Little things that make you smile

Riding through London on the upper deck of a double-decker bus when there are no other passengers on board. I like to sit right at the front. Watching a beautiful sunset in summer Walking up hills/mountains and enjoying the vista Chocolate Having an idea for a customizable fantasy toy and having...

    LARPing on telly!

LARPing is to be featured on ITV as part of a new series called Tough Gig. In the series, famous comedians are immersed in various communities for a few days and then have to do stand-up for them. In the second episode of the series, Dara O'Briain meets and entertains some LARPers. The episode...

How do you like your gnomes best?

I agree! :) The 1E gnome was, I believe, inspired by a character from Poul Anderson's Three Hearts and Three Lions so I combine that concept with the 1E and Huygen and Poortvliet ones for gnomes in my homebrew. IMC, gnomes have 2 favoured classes: druid and illusionist, not bard.

    Gen Con UK 2007

Hello, Sean, If you haven't already, you should post on the UK Games Roleplay Google Group and on the various UK-based RPG Meetup groups, e.g. the London D&D Meetup group (I'm one of the organisers of the London D&D Meetup group). It's probably too late to organise a campaign through...

What would you say to Orlando Bloom?

I just came across Orlando Bloom. He was walking his dog in the park I was crossing. I figured that he didn't want to be bothered by another geeky fan so I just smiled as I passed him and he smiled back. If you had been in my situation, what would you have done or said?
