Is World of Warcraft creating a desire for more role-playing in D&D?

Nope. It's creating monster players. That doesn't apply to anyone on this message board, of course. I'm talking about everyone else who plays Ww. No one here.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

And a great many aren't. (shrug) Good grief, what kind of DMs have some of you been playing against?! I can't remember the last time the DM tried to beat us into submission with a scenario we couldn't overcome or otherwise work around ... clerically or otherwise. And even when things are tough...

PCs using their abilities - a favor to the party?

If the player feels as though his character isn't doing anything cool as a cleric, then he probably picked the wrong class. The fault isn't the game itself, but in the expectations and attitudes of the cranky player.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

Thank you. But it's not hostility. Just sarcasm. Only if you miss the point.

PCs using their abilities - a favor to the party?

Please clarify for others on this thread: Which cleric is being played the "right" way?

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

Wow. I didn't realize that's what the DM must be doing. Thanks for opening my eyes. And to think I used to imagine we were intelligent and played well together ... Suddenly the game is much less fun. I might as well go play WoW where the terms "win" and "lose" are so much more...

PCs using their abilities - a favor to the party?

Thanks ever so much for that assessment. Likewise, I believe that anyone who yells at another person because of his own expectations is a rude jerk. And it's probably apparent before the yelling begins. But we're talking about fantasy PCs and not real "lives on the line," so it's nothing...

(agreement nod) That pretty much says it all.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

It's been proven out that people who are unhappy with something are more likely to make a big fuss than people who are happy with it. That doesn't mean they are the majority.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

That this surprises you makes me sad for your own experiences.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

I've never lost against any hard encounters. If a situation is more difficult than you have resources to tackle immediately, you back off and replan or restock or reroute around it. That's a core assumption of the roleplaying gaming experiences I've been in: creative solutions, no matter how...

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

Interesting. One guy wants to do everything, while the other guy(s) expect him to fulfill a very specific, narrow role. In this case, I'd say the fault lies on both sides of the table. No one has any respect for cooperative play balanced against individual style.

    Suggested add, above. :)

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

To remind, the point of this thread: Back to your comments: The rules are flexible enough to provide plenty of possibilities. It's the players who bluntly assume a particular role that screw things up and make the cleric class "unfun."

    How to do Romance?

Every so often the message thread headers randomly line up in an amusing way. In this case, there are three that can be read in sequence to paint a picture: Please help - New guy coming out of retirement ... How to do Romance? ... Brainstorming for the next setting. :)

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

The more often we see posted assumptions that the cleric is "unfun" or can be played in only one way, the more likely people will believe it. Clerics are fine. It's the other players that suck.
