D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

I haven't seen the full stat block. I assume the tentacles need to hit to trigger this affect? Or is this the main attack? If the later, I see why they went with the Dex save for triggering the initial condition, but subsequent saves really should be Con to resist the poison. Weird.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Yes, but my point is to have both. The roles are just that - roles only, with no other flavor.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

I had the same thought. You get to the "Creating a Creature" section of the DMG and it starts with: Use the approaches and examples in the following sections to build custom creatures for your game. "Oh boy, let's dig in!" 2 pages on how to modify stat blocks and add traits later...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

The problem with defaulting to generic NPC blocks for many of the humanoids (especially playable ones) is they all become vanilla. Yes, I can re-skin, but that's putting the onus on me. Species-specific statblocks allow you to introduce flavor - e.g., a drow guard having unique abilities...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

A "Book of Villainy" is one way to introduce NPC statblocks for intelligent humanoids that are meant to be fought. Evil drow, orcs, humans, elves, etc.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Perhaps they will put out a expansion book focused on humanoid statblocks and classes ("Book of Humanoids"). For each species, they could have a several statblocks that represent different NPC roles, similar to the Appendix, but more in depth by species. Or maybe this is a product for the DM...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Personally, I'd rather the MM include stat blocks for all the humanoids (including humans, elves, gnomes, dwarves, etc., ala the 1e MM), but that's just me. I view it as an opportunity to explore the unique cultures for each species - for example, the differences between wood elves, high-elves...

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

I like what I'm hearing about the new starter set - something that allows for easy entry into the game. Really curious how they'll handle all the "humanoids" given the recent changes/reclassifications to other monster types. Given it's in a future take on KotB, I'm guessing the caves are now...

Evil Genius Games Attempts To Remove Bad Press [Update--And Then Adds Legal Threats!]

This sounds like a person having a crisis moment. Pretty unstable stuff here. Not that I'm excusing it, just sounding more and more like a cry for help in a very bizarre way.

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

I agree with Stalker in that if I’m running the Wizard, I’d shy away from spells that allow a save knowing an Ancient Dragon will have LR. Kind of meta, but these are also highly experienced characters that likely would have some knowledge about dragons. Upcast those magic missiles FTW!

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

I was being a bit facetious here, but don’t disagree with your statement. What I was really getting at is as a player, I love feeling like the odds are against us. Makes the high fives around the table after rolling that Nat 20 on your Charisma save all the more meaningful.

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

As a player, I wouldn’t mind. It allows a save (albeit it’s a dc24 charisma save). I enjoy battles that require a combination of sound tactics and luck. Obviously they would have won if they only had a bard (or monk)!

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

This was great, thanks for doing this. It reminded me of the thread from a few weeks ago regarding who/what you blame when your character dies. I voted The Dice, which was certainly the case for this unfortunate party - too little too late, but still a very close and exciting battle!
