D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

It was the third session of our new campaign, the start of which first got delayed by RL issues for over a year and then when we were about to launch, COVID hit. It just feels so good to finally be playing again on the regular! I've started off the campaign with The Forgotten Temple of...

D&D 5E (2014) Mashup of Official WotC published adventures?

That was my last campaign (and probably will be the same for my next): Started with Steading of the Hill Giant Chief before going straight into The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl. Then the PCs trekked their way through the underdark, going through two old Dungeon Magazine adventures, a One...

    OD&D Best Classic Adventures?

I had never seen that cover before and I really like it. It made me google that module. [emoji2369]

    OD&D Best Classic Adventures?

Unless I've misunderstood this thread terribly, this thread is about old school modules, a very subjective term, not OSR, which you seem to be referring to.

    OD&D Best Classic Adventures?

White Plume Mountain is my favorite experience running any published adventure, hands down. Love that module!

WotC What anime franchises could be adapted into D&D?

The Seven Deadly Sins is essentially a high level D&D campaign.

    D&D 5E (2014) Boxed texts

I wouldn't call highlighting relevance railroading, no. I would call it clarity.

    D&D 5E (2014) Boxed texts

I hadn't really thought about it in those terms, but this does ring true. While a lot of English gets thrown around our table, to the point of becoming it's own pidgin fusion gaming twang, a lot of boxed texts sound outright weird and/or pretentious to me and I just can't say it with a straight...

D&D General 4e Healing was the best D&D healing

Yeah ok, I've gone and looked at the rule material, probably for the first time in well over a decade, and we did scribe scrolls a lot. And brewed some potions. I kinda remembered the rules being less feat focused, more involved, but I guess it was just a feat chain. We dropped XP pretty early...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boxed texts

I don't read boxed text in general. I have, on occasion, but very rarely. When using a module, I'll usually transcribe most descriptions, boxed or not, into bullet points and work from that.

D&D General 4e Healing was the best D&D healing

How much were the magic crafting rules used, though? That is, by people who didn't squawk about D&D online? In our games back then, the abundance of healing potions did cause some problems (so I limited their availability), but I never thought of crafting healsticks until reading flame wars...

D&D General How long do you like your campaigns?

I have been considering giving WOTC's adventures a closer look, but what I've seen just generally doesn't really fit me very much. I like a lot of different scenarios that then end up tying together in the long run, but don't set out as one big thematic quest from the go. I own two of them...

D&D General 4e Healing was the best D&D healing

They don't, on either front, no. I prefer arrays, they all seem to prefer point buy. One of them did want to roll their ability scores once, but she got frustrated with the results and went back point buy. I think it's more about tactility of dice and that each HD represents a level. Originally...

D&D General How long do you like your campaigns?

I'm struggling with this question these days, actually. And I don't really know what I want. Back in the olden days we'd have long and intricate campaigns, made up of multiple shorter adventures, that would run its course in less than a year. But we were young and carefree and game-obsessed. We...

D&D General 4e Healing was the best D&D healing

I want to say that despite how much I liked the elegancy of 4e's surges and how it plugged into the overall system, I also do quite like HD. Rolling HD is a big win among my players. I don't have to do very much to recapture the aspects of the rythm I liked in 4e. I increase monster damage a...

D&D General 4e Healing was the best D&D healing

Which is how I've been playing it. I really liked surges in 4e as the main pacing mechanic, and I brought a lot of that rythm with me into 5e. I dont use HD to the same extent as I used surges — surge loss developed into the main "damage" suffered outside of combat in my 4e games but I haven't...

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite things in the playtest that never made it

I was fairly active in the first half of the playtest process, and I remember a lot of both positive and negative feelings towards a lot of things, but the memories have become pretty murky. The Skill Die does live on as the Proficiency Die optional rule, which was a big success for our group...

D&D 5E (2014) In your Years of Gaming, How many Psionic Characters did you See played

I saw a few in 3e, but that's it. We were kinda into The Psionic Handbook for a bit after it came out.

D&D General Hey, are we all cool with having to buy the same book twice, or what?

I don't expect to be able to get DOOM on the Switch just because I purchased it on Steam. I mean, it would be pretty nice if I did, but I wouldnt expect it.

D&D General Hey, are we all cool with having to buy the same book twice, or what?

I was a bit annoyed at how long I had to wait to get the core books in a digital format, but was happy to pay for it when it finally came.
