    Can of spinach

I imagine it's the rare and special canning process that give the spinach it's special potency. The manufacturer also makes Cans of Worms and Cans of Whoop-Ass.

    Adventures with extensive backstory

I generally don't much care for modern modules for this very reason, but I have much love for the early stuff. I think, though, that the later crop of 5e modules have improved some in this regard! But I just skim that stuff for the general gist ("Blah-blah-blah, evil wizard, eat the smurfs...

Creating your world: Is it a struggle or does it just come to you?

Worldbuilding is one of my favourite aspects of D&D. I can't say I struggle with it and I tend to do it pretty ad hoc, as things spring to mind. Sometimes I have built myself into a corner as I make things up on a the spot, sure, but I also take a lot of joy out of making up convoluted...

    Ideas for Improving Inspiration

The tradition of Awesome Points evolved from Action Points over the course of our 4e campaign, which carried over to our 5e game. We don't use inspiration as written. From our House Rule document: AWESOME POINTS (APs)...

    Drinking Problem

We generally have drinks during game night, and yes, it happens on occasion that someone, or several people, or the DM, gets a bit too drunk. It's fine, we're there to have fun with each other.

Most Outlandish Creative Non-sense You Ever Thought Up.

In my 4E game I solved the system’s expectation for a magic item economy with Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium, an interdimensional magic mart with multiple store fronts (all leading to the same pocket dimension superstore) in back alleys around the globe.

How long is a long time ago, and how far is far, far away?

I kinda like to think the SW universe is set in the distant past of the Stargate Universe. The dark side users eventually win (as the "the Ori") and kick the light side users (the Alterans) out of the SW galaxy, who come here and seed the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies in their image. Now, the...

    D&D 4E D&D Fluff Wars: 4e vs 5e

I quite like both, but if I had to choose, I guess I'd go for the "classic" AD&D branch of fluff, but overall it's very much on a case-by-case basis. My original entry point was neither, but rather Basic's version, which while similar to the AD&D line's version, differed in some fundamental...

D&D 5E (2014) [DM Help] Faerûn's Vendors - A flexible vendor system for magic consumables

[DM Help] Faerûn's Vendors - A flexible vendor system for magic consumables In my current campaign, the PCs will come upon the occasional magic item vendor, but they always have a very limited inventory of pre-chosen items (and a shitload of consumables). After just skimming your document, I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your First Module

The first module I ever ran was the one that was included with the Icelandic RPG Askur Yggdralsis, which I got for my 10th birthday. It was also the only module I ever ran as-is until 4e, when I ran White Plume Mountain. I'm not sure which was the first module I ever bought, though—I amassed a...

D&D 5E (2014) How much Forgotten Realms have you used in your games?

I have never run FR and I have only played in one super short campaign (consisting of a few session over the span of two weeks) when I was a kid, but I've stolen from it lots.

Do you mayhaps have that lying around somewhere in a sharable form?

    D&D 5E (2014) How OLD are YOU

Recently turned 32. Been gaming since age 9, or since the autumn of 1994. I've been on ENWorld (and it's Eric Noah predecessor) since it began in 1999, then aged 15—meaning that last year I passed the mark of having been on ENWorld for more than half my life. I was just kinda realising this now.

Killing the sacred cow: playing D&D with only 4 abilities instead of 6. And returning to 3 saves instead of 6.

To a point, except they don't correspond exactly like that. Under my thinking, most acrobatics and such would fall under Brawn, stealth would fall under Cunning, while the rest of Dex's babies would fall under Finesse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    D&D 5E (2014) Cancelling games over absent player(s)

I currently have 5 players. We will play with 3 present. The missing players' characters will be side-played by one of the attending players.

Killing the sacred cow: playing D&D with only 4 abilities instead of 6. And returning to 3 saves instead of 6.

For redesigned Ability Scores, I once came up with (inspired by various sources): Brawn Character Cunning Finesse This seemed to hit all the main notes for D&D-esque play for me. I never used it for anything, just a brain exercise sometime. ~ But I sometimes miss the old Fortitude, Reflexes...

    D&D 5E (2014) feeling dissatisfied - need some advice

I don't know what to do with the distant gods bit, other than make it clear that a lot of NPCs just don't buy it. Just as much as Tony Stark scoffs at "magic" as merely being science beyond our knowledge, I find it perfectly understandable that many would see "divine" magic as mere arcane tricks...

    D&D 5E (2014) Save for falling damage?

I kinda like STR save for this, as an extension of the Strong Guys Don't Feel Pain trope.
