    D&D 5E (2014) MCU's Asgardians in 5E D&D terms

Something like this is what I've been considering doing for my current setting, although it hasn't come into play in any way (and as of yet there are no plans for it, so I haven't bothered digging into it), but the 'gods' are just NPC-like characters of a higher power level (of levels 21+). So...

    D&D 5E (2014) MCU's Asgardians in 5E D&D terms

It's a dead religion, for one. While there are neo-pagans who revere the Æsir etc, their interpretations aren't any more accurate than Marvel's, as such. And while I know there are sects around the world who take the whole worship thing more seriously, locally at least they don't actually claim...

    D&D 5E (2014) MCU's Asgardians in 5E D&D terms

He's also an utter idiot according to the Eddas. And best buds with Loki, not his foster brother. And not powered by cosmic superscience. And, and, and... But there's a difference between ignorance and creative licence. I used to feel similarly when younger, but I've grown to really like the...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your Master Villain like?

Mine are a cabal of Moon Elves (high elves) who, behind the scenes, have taken it upon themselves to make sure that no civilization advances beyond a certain point, out of fear of the (re-)discovery of 10th level spells leading to (yet another) apocalypse. They replace the Drow in our Against...

    D&D 5E (2014) Players Roll All Dice

What I meant is they rolled [relevant stat] vs. Saves+10, not that they roll the Save for the NPC.

    D&D 5E (2014) Players Roll All Dice

I'm the opposite, I love rolling for damage against the PCs (FEEL THE PAIN! Muhahah!), but let them roll their own defenses. I also made them roll NPC saves against PC attacks, but have since dropped it. Since it's mostly against spell attacks, we found we liked the way it felt different.

D&D 5E (2014) Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

We don't actually know how the Norse related to the Æsir. We have the myths, and some vague ideas of blóts and sacrifices/appeasements (mainly that they happened, devoid of details), but all modern attempts at emulating it are guesswork. We can't even trust the Eddas, pretty much our sole...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

To expand upon this, I base my current cosmology loosely on the Mystara cosmology--there are several layered dimensions, each encompassing multiple planes: The 1st dimension is The Source, it's the Singularity that everything else is a projection of--many believe this dimension to be/contain...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

I have always kind of taken this to be the D&D default, on the one hand because my introduction to the game through the "god neutral" BECMI/RC and on the other hand because of my early introduction to Planescape, which I immediately interpreted this way. Gods exist because we believe them to...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

In my current game, while there are gods who are worshipped, they are merely powerful (mortal) beings who have ascended to a higher plane of existence--basically like Mystara's Immortals. Being worshipped gives you power, so many (but not all) such beings seek out establishing religions centered...

D&D 5E (2014) GDQ All in One or Separately?

I'm currently running G1-3 as one big arc. After some consideration, I decided to pass on D and Q. Q has a bad reputation (I haven't really studied it), and while there's some quality yoinkables in D, I ultimately just don't care for the Drow. I considered changing the Drow to High Elves, but...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons and Dragons and the RPG Stigma

I think I've gotten much more flack in my life for my love of super hero comic books, more than anything else.

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons and Dragons and the RPG Stigma

I don't think I've ever had an overly negative reaction to me D&Ding, although I'm sure to be forgetting something from way back. Not that I would advertise it when I was younger, out of fear of invoking bad attitude, but I think it was mostly in my head. I'd say that around 1 in 4 will show...

    D&D 5E (2014) Length of peoples Campaigns?

For years my group would periodically switch between a long, ongoing campaign (or a series of interconnected campaigns set in the same world, originally using RC rules, before switching to 2e, then GURPS, and eventually 3e), and shorter, more self-contained games (using a variety of systems)...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone play with just the basic rules?

We started using only Basic, but we have introduced the PHB material in theory. We've yet to use anything from it, though.

D&D 5E (2014) Tell me about your Homebrew 5E campaign setting

My setting has come to be about the idea of a gonzo D&D world at the end of its lifespan, yet isn't post-apocalyptic, as much as it is post-post-apocalyptic. Over its million year life, this world has been everything D&D has thrown at us, be it Dragonlance, Greyhawk or Dark Sun (or Points of...

D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mine of Phandelver tips n tricks

I prepared LMoP for play--changed it more to the burned-out gonzo style I'm trying to achieve with my current setting--but then the group (second group to my main/current group) fell through because of things. So I've put a lot of work into it, but didn't end up running it.

Yup. We use it and we like it a lot. We've been using it since the start (before the DMG).

Creating a full viking world, need an outside oppinion

There are a lot of theories of the origin/difference between the Æsir and the Vanir, that the Vanir were simply older gods that were supplanted by newer gods (and vice-versa), that they were the gods of the people living in Scandinavia before the Germanic invasion (and it's really the story of...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs: How Old Are You?

I'm 30, but I chose the 'Young Kids and Stuff' option, as I'm married with a four year old daughter. This is pretty standard timing here. I DMed my first game at 9, the day after I first got introduced to D&D (love at first roll).
