    Charging?

I think I'll go for: If you Charge, you get Advantage for the attack, but grant Advantage to the target next turn. You cannot move for the rest of your turn after charging. Seems good on paper.

"For a more old school experience..."

That's because it's more of an umbrella term encompassing various different playstyles and thoughts that share being at odds with the more modern trends in D&D. The Old School ideals are sometimes also at odds with each other, just as "New School" isn't a cohesive playstyle.

    Advantages / Disadvantages

Mike Mearls gave some clarification in a twitter reply: Igfig If you are somehow inhibited from using your skill, it's a penalty. If you are fully functional but circumstances against you, disad.

    Adapting Advntage/Disadvantage

I've been thinking the same thing, but I don't have the mechanical intuition to tell if it will frack everything up.

    Advantages / Disadvantages

Having Advantage makes you more likely to succeed, but doesn't increase the scope of what you can do, since the max DC you can beat is still 20 + Modifier. How's this: Higher rate of success --> Advantage Expand the scope of what you can achieve --> Bonus

    Advantages / Disadvantages

The Advantage system is something that makes me immediately think "Yoink!" for my 4e game, but we'll see how it's in play after the scheduled playtest session on sunday. We constantly forget the +2/-2 CA bonuses in 4e. I hate fiddly variables during play.

    The playtest has begun

Me too. They are apparently working on the issue.

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

They're probably trying to distribute the load on their systems.

I have received the email, have finished signing up and await the download link.

    Good drowning rules

Well, that's why I let the players roll for Endurance to regain the surges once they were able to catch their breath. In hindsight, I should've let the regain more surges than they did, but that's also because it took them longer to get out of the pit than I expected. But I often use Surge-loss...

    Good drowning rules

I featured a drowning trap in my game a few months back and I handled it like so: Rather than place it under any arbitrary in-fiction time constrains, I timed it by actions: 1 action (be it minor, move or standard) costs 1 surge. Not doing anything for a turn counts as 1 action. Those trained...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E needs to be pro-moldbreaking

3e and 4e assume so much about people's games, that yeah, there seems to be a strong perception of Right Proper Way To Do Things, especially with younger gamers (I think, hard to gauge people's ages online). I'm under the impression that this is mainly what gives the whole DIY movement it's...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

As has been thoroughly discussed in this thread, no that's not a load of crap. I get where you're coming from and it's a legitimate criticism of the 4e system and it's assumptions. But that's still what a level 6 goblin means in 4e terms.

You answered your own question: He's a 6th level monster because he's tougher and harder to hit.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E needs to be pro-moldbreaking

I, for one, hope for a more of a toolbox approach. I've always approached D&D with that mindset. 3e wasn't very accommodating in this regard for me. 4e is much better about it, but assumes too much. Still, I like there to be some assumptions in a game, as long as it's upfront about it, because...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Meh. I love colorful crits (and fumbles!), but mechanically it should be super-simple. Max-damage is fine. Then give some examples of adding in color on a case-by-case basis, depending on the narrative. (Of course, obligatory "solve it with Modular Magic", yaddayadda.)

    Community

Yeah, the finale was a much mellower affair than I anticipated, but it actually wrapped things up pretty well. It was surprisingly satisfying. That is the exact opposite of my view: Sure, I liked Community in it's first season, but it wasn't until the tail end of the season it started so show...

Yeah, Community's surprise renewal may end up being a bittersweet victory. :(

    What about adventures?

I don't think that's true. I'm not saying there isn't demand for Adventure Paths, but it seems to me that demand is pretty divided between APs and more sandboxy-elements, like dungeons and adventure locales.
