    D&D 5E (2014) 5E - Would you buy e-Books?

Thats alright, I wasnt including your in my 'we'. It was my group, and unless your one of my player moonlighting, I dont want to include you I repeat, for OUR group, its PDF or its nothing

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

Bingo. Really, if you equate usefulness in a fight to damage dealt, you really are looking at it with blinkers on.

Wands and Staffs: Impliment or Spell Containers

Im sorry, I might have missed the post. Did someone say they should be required? The posts I read simply said they should enhance. Or are you inferring that the fact they enhance implies they are required?

Wands and Staffs: Impliment or Spell Containers

Spell containers was a lame idea in the first place. One of the things I give 4e points for is trying to get wands e.t.c. as implements. I never liked how a fighters got all sorts of gear to do what he did better, yet caster got gear to do it more often... That said, I dont want spells and...

    Radical(?) Thought: no bonuses...

Its not a bad idea, but if there is one thing I have learned about radical system shift is that for every problem you solve, you create new problems to replace them! My fear with this approach is how much room you ave for features. After Stat-derived features, race feature, class features, item...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E - Would you buy e-Books?

Electronic form is massively important. We dont want books any more. We use ipads and to be able to look things up on them is a far better option than lugging books around. Frankly, its PDF or its nothing.

One Way to Reduce HP Bloat

Thats very true, it does. My experience from past editions has been that the biggest damage outputters have always been the multiple attackers, be they because if stacked bonus's or crit fishing. I have actually considered DR as a part of core rules a solution to multiple attack dominance.

D&D 5E (2014) Should magic items stay out of the next PHB?

Gotta admit I havent seen that information. Im glad thats the case. For me Magic equipment lost some of its sparkle when it just became part of the build and class requirement. It was so much more enjoyable when it was an aspect of character growth which was outside of character design, a random...

D&D 5E (2014) Should magic items stay out of the next PHB?

Yea. To me, loot is part of the reward structure that filters from adventure to player. Its a gift for success and participation, not an expectation. Once its in the players handbook, its starts coming across as an entitlement. My personnel preference = Keep it out of the players handbook.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Online MMORPG Announced

DDO...Im actually playing it at the moment :). The engine might be six years old, but DDO is still going (thanks to its free to play model). The funny thing is, I actually fork out occasionally for some turbine points for something. I dont mind, its cheap gaming, and if anything its actually...

Avoiding "Glut" (Maneuvers, tricks and other options)

Your not alone. Everything you described is alomst exactly where I am coming from as well. 4e was the most expansive, technically accurate and engrossing combat experience ever in a Table top rpg. But for all of that it lost me. Bloat was definitely one of the factors. I do acknowledge shidaku...

D&D blog: goblin care only about your axe

Realtive to last post, I said Totm + Positioning = zone system. Zone system is what Im after. Positioning and tactics with simplicity and speed.

D&D blog: goblin care only about your axe

This is bang on the issue with trying to run the game in "dual mode". Some things such as flanking under a grid system fall apart once you try to abstract things, and powers designed to take advantage of grid system loose there sting. Im not encouraged by this talk of dual systems. There is so...

    "Aggro"

If we HAVE to use combat roles (grumble grumble) this is what I am more drawn to. At the end of the day, tanking is just a variant on controller. Think about, they take away the enemies ability to attack softer enemies = they are controlling enemy actions. But really, to me, it comes down to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making Abilities More Meaningful in 5E

Keep the ideas coming people. I like it when every stat has at least SOME value to everyone (some more than other, but each has some). I want it to be a tough decision to even have a dump stats.

If WotC deliver on all their promises...

To me the promises mean spit. Really, they got them out there because ANY process of design process starts with a broad statement of goals. By putting them out there, they are a) Getting some feedback from the community that they are heading in the right direction b) Placating the grogs on the...

    Optional vs. "Optional"

It doesnt matter what game we have played, there was always the "one book" that came out, was ill conceived and saw player tearing it apart for every legal, game destroying facet they can get their hands on. I learned early that as a DM that wishes his game to keep working, he has to have a...

Magic is not the red-headed stepchild.

Isnt this a bit more specific to illusion style magic, where perception is an issue. Cause I dont care if you cant see a fireball, still going to burn you.

    Bend, dont break.

3e did point out the wisdom of the vancian system to me, not that is proved it worked in 3e, but that with worked in 2e. 3e did break it with bonza bonus spells and wands of more castings that you will ever need. To me the mage is the wildcard, the guys that occasionally, spectacularly trumps...

    Rogue Design goals . L&L May 7th

If I was to make an observation, this is probably one of the biggest divides in the community right now. Im completely on the polar opposite from you. To me, Fighters ARE the best in a fight, rogues ARE the most skilled yada yada. The thing we are not hearing alot from WOTC on is...
