    Impressions from KotS

$30?! Seriously?! For a 64 page adventure? What are they smoking?

Is it time for a new setting?

Yep, it will be a long time before we get anything new. Nostalgia sells and people are afraid of change so I doubt WotC will surprise us with anything new. I'd love to see something different. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing third party publishers give it a shot. Midnight and the Iron...

Are you buying the rule books separately or as a gift set?

At least at Amazon it's cheaper to buy the gift set $62.97 vs. $69.21. You also get a slick slipcase as well. Perhaps if you were only planning to play as a PC I could see why the only buying the PHB would be a good deal. If you plan to GM in the future it's a no brainer.

Pathfinder 1E Monte Cook joins Pathfinder team

I didn't know what to make of this. Congrat's to Paizo and Monte, I guess. I'm moving on from 3.x. Just sold my core rulebooks and am in the process of selling of a bunch more.

    What's Your Favorite Fluff...Stuff?

Greyhawk has a very interesting free fluff writeup in Ivid the Undying. I agree 100% with those who have listed Iron Kingdoms and Midnight. Ptolus is very interesting but a little too generic to make it all that interesting. L5R has a great setting with wonderful characters and a rich and...

    Amazon and Preordering

I don't know what Amazon has planned for the core rulebooks but I doubt they will ship them any earlier than necessary. I don't know about the rest of you but I haven't had much luck with preorders. For a while now I've only ordered books the day the list as "in stock". Preordering actually...

    WH40K Dark Heresy

From what I understand they are also increasing the price of the rulebook by $10. Probably to defray some of the costs of obtaining the license.

    Daily Art Preview

All praise The Kormak! Kidding aside, I've always loved Githyanki but never thought much of the Githzerai until now. Now I'm dying to play one although I assume I'll have to wait a while for the psionics handbook. My only criticism of the piece is that as githzerai the "magic" shouldn't be...

Looking for a large evil city setting or module

I liked this article. I haven't been paying attention to the online version of Dragon or Dungeon magazines. It looks like I may have been missing out. Thanks for pointing it out.

Looking for a large evil city setting or module

It's been ages since I last read it and it might not be exactly what you're looking for but the first supplement that came to my mind is Slavers for 2nd edition D&D. It's set in Greyhawk and, IIRC, is more of an adventure to find the err... slavers that keep kidnapping people from lands around...

NeoExodus: have ya checked it out

I've read the free setting material and it rocks. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that it doesn't include a map. That makes following along the history section rather difficult. I was all set to buy a bunch of the supplements but two things have held me back. 1) It's 3.5. I've...

    Beholder in Seattle

I think it's a great idea and all but as the father of a 3 year old I'll say that this is the type of thing some parents are scared will frighten the daylights of their little one(s). My son doesn't even know what a gun is and thinks monsters are overgrown frogs only seen in storybooks. Cool...

    Favorite Sci-Fi system/setting?

Dark Heresy Transhuman Space Ex Machina Heavy Gear Jovian Chronicles Trinity All these games/settings rock for different reasons. All deserve space on your shelf.

    Gnolls, gnolls, glorious gnolls

Another obvious place to look is anywhere Yeenoghu (demon prince of gnolls) is mentioned. Monster Manual (1977), page 19; Monster Mythology, page 83; Book of Vile Darkness, page 140; Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss, pages 78-79. I love wikipedia. I also like the gnolls presented in Green...

    The Economist's obit on Gygax

I don't know if anyone else saw it but even the Wall Street Journal had an article on March 7th. Here it is. Nice piece I thought. Especially coming from a paper like the WSJ.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder - confused about all the products

What setting specific books are there? Will the setting material in the AP books be reprinted in the hardback I thought I saw? I guess what I really want to know is this, If I'm interested in the setting only (no adventures) what book(s) do I need. Thanks.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder - confused about all the products

Can anyone explain how one should approach all the different Pathfinder products Paizo is publishing? I canceled my subscription around the time Chapter 2 of the first AP was released and now I see that much has happened since and the list of product to be released is, frankly, mind boggling...

    Stephen Colbert on Gygax

As I mentioned on the RPG.net message boards, Anderson Cooper (360) also mentioned Gary Gygax last night. He also confessed to being a "D&D geek" back in the day. Edit: Found it! You can see video of last night's show here: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/pod...ef=videosearch At about the...

    Do you buy D&D Minis?

If so, do you use them when playing the RPG or are they only for use with the miniatures game? Do you like their integration into the game even if they are not strictly required? I think they are too costly so I ignore them completely. I also cringe at the thought of organizing and storing them...

How much money have you spent on 3.x?

By my calculations, if you buy most of your hardbacks from amazon then you'd need to own about 50 of them to spend $1,000. I don't doubt I've spent that much but I may have to revise my initial post down to $2K. I buy a books for many different games so It wouldn't surprise me if I overstated...
