Why are elves inferior spellcasters./why gnomes are better.

My first D&D character was a gnome wizard. She had the most hp in the party. Con bonuses are good.

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

Reminds me of this: In the last Eberron session, a changeling rogue, thanks to the magic of action points, managed to stop a bullrushing ogre. That's typical of these "it's only possible because of the rules" scenarii... Common sense would result in a lot more TPK when fighting big monsters.

Why are elves inferior spellcasters./why gnomes are better.

Yes. This reason being the combination of d4 HD for wizards with the "adventuring lifestyle".

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

Merric, have you ever been in Europe? 5-ft.-wide corridors ain't realism. Realism is 2-ft.-wide corridors. I remember, long ago, reading an article wrote by Monte Cook (IIRC) about his surprise, as a game designer, upon discovering what a real medieval castle looked like. In that they don't...

Why are elves inferior spellcasters./why gnomes are better.

Hey, have you ever thought about swaping the elves and gnomes around? It makes so much sense it's frightening! Elves are usually chaotic good. Their favored class is bard. They live in small communities and have a happy-go-lucky outlook on life. They're fond of pranks and practical jokes as...

[World Design] Implications of a longer day

Wouldn't that depend also on density? Like in Vance's Big Planet, where he uses lack of metals as the stone with which to kill both the bird of technology (no metal -> few machines) and the one of size (low density -> bigger planet for the same gravity).

I guess this is the only way she would stop feeling the stick up in there.

[World Design] Implications of a longer day

Also, in classical pagan religions, there was the belief that if the temple to so-or-so deity was profaned, the city or country risked natural disaster. (In fact, the destruction of pagan temples such as the Alexandrian Serapeum under Theodosius, without any apparent consequence, was...

Why are elves inferior spellcasters./why gnomes are better.

Favored class is another pet peeve of mine. It's so seldom understood! "Favored class" is a system to prevent you from losing XP for an uneven multiclassing. What this means is that elves, through their fav. class of wizard, are more likely than other races to have unevenly multiclassed...

Why are elves inferior spellcasters./why gnomes are better.

The elves just don't make sense. They never have. AD&D2: "Elves are in tune with nature and respect it more than any other race. Elves cannot be druids. Elves have more powerful magic than any other race. An elven wizard can't go past level 15." Yeah, great. Background fluff: "Elves have...

[World Design] Implications of a longer day

That is, until you factor in the local nature gods and goddesses, whose worship make the climate more clement. :D

3x12/8. The eight hours of rest have a strong magical significance in D&D.

I think she is charismatic. She has a big fan club, and Roy was completely smitten with her. It's only after a while, once the Real Miko gets to be known, that people start to hate her. So, she has raw charisma (creates good first impressions), but a ugly character (and people can't stand her...

Azure City existed long before Soon was born. It just happened it had a tiny gate high in its sky. Soon and his colleagues got a big palace to be built to reach that gate, in order to seal the gate in a sapphire. The Sapphire Guard was then founded to protect it. When Soon retired, he trusted...

If it's a class feature, she lost it. Fallen! :D Theoretically, she also lost the stick, but her denial makes her still behave as though she had it.

Red herring. It has always been my understanding that he was "nameless ghost martyr mook #37" and that when Soon was talking to him it was a plural "you", as in "you the ghost martyrs you continue whittling at the lich while I, being resistant to Redcloak's turn attempts, I'll distract that...

    Exalted (d6). Help me, please.

Make a success on a 5 or a 6, with 6 counting double like the 10 in Exalted. The reduced chance of normal success but increased chance of double success should balance each other. In normal Storytelling system, a die represents 50% of "win" (30% x 1 success, 10% x 2 successes). There, a die...
